So I have a question for those of you who went through this? My fiance just came here and we want to get married. Do we apply for a sociall security card first or get married? Also for the SS card, they require 2 proofs of identity but he only has his passport, to get a valid ID here you must have a social security number.. SO PLEASE anyone with any info.. help!!

This is what I am aware you need for the application for the SS card: I-94, passport, and what else ??

Read the form here: http://www.ssa.gov/online/ss-5.pdf it mentions documents.

I believe I took my passport and birth certificate. They will need to see the I-94 and K1 visa.

Apply for SSN card 10 days after arriving in the USA.

Just show the SSA local staff the passport showing the K-1 visa and the I-94.

Once you the SSN card is received, then you can apply for marriage license and get married.

Go back to the SSA local office with the certified marriage certificate for name change on the SSN card.

** Topics involving the SS Card are typically most appropriate in Working & Traveling During US Immigration rather than (in this case) AOS/Family-based. Moving thread there.
