I tried to convince my wife that a man's birthday is "International BJ anytime I want one Day". Perhaps I should have taken a more diplomatic approach. International Mens Day sounds much more legitimate.

Actually, while International Women's Day is inspired by events that took place in in 1908, the first know celebration of it as a sort of holiday is on March 19, 1911. Hallmark Cards (founded as Hall Brothers) began in 1910. So, I guess the debate continues whether or not this is a corporate holiday or not.

International Women's Day (IWD), originally called International Working Women’s Day is marked on March 8 every year.[1] This day commemorates the murder of 129 women who were set on fire inside a textile factory in New York in 1908. They were standing for their labor rights. The owners of the factory rejected their petitions and locked them inside the factory which was then set on fire.

The first IWD was observed on 19 March 1911 in Germany following a declaration by the Socialist Party of America. The idea of having an international women's day was first put forward at the turn of the 20th century amid rapid world industrialization and economic expansion that led to protests over working conditions

Wow, didn't realize it was inspired by such grizzley events. Scott Walker and the conservative Tea Party members should take notice, this is not how you deal with unions.

Better watch out guys, celebrating this holiday might lose you some tea party points if they knew you were celebrating a pro-union holiday.
