Hi. In 1-485, Part 3 A on Processing Information, there is a question asking for maritAL STATUS. iS THIS ASKING FOR MARITAL STATUS BEFORE i ENTERED the USA, OR THE CURRENT MARITAL STATUS. It is confusing because this question is asked along with visa issuance details which tranmspired for me in 2007, and at that time I was still single. Please help. Thanks.

Thank you, how about in the i-130 petition where it is asking for spouse's address abroad? Since I am adjusting status here in US, do I have to write the address where I used to live in the Philippines, obviously, I am not living there anymore, only my mother in the Philippines. or just write N/A?

Well, since you are not (I assume) under a current immigrant visa status, you should always maintain a permanent home addresss in your country of origin. This is required for all non-immigrant visas and VWP. Most people use their parent's address when moving to another country for longer.. (I am F-1 student currently, and use my parent's address as permanent home address).

The address has to be outside the U.S. I don't think you can/should leave that blank.

I put 'none' for my current UK address, which is the truth. I've lived here for 18 months, and no longer maintain an address in the UK. Are you saying that I absolutely have put an address there?

I suppose I could use my parent's address, but that's not really true. I don't have a home in the UK any more. Should I really lie on the form?

No, never lie. That's the first rule of immigration.

I am under F-1 status, and know that while under that particular non-immigrant visa, the visa holder must always have a permanent address in his/her home country. Hence the "non-immigrant" - it is to show that you have maintained some type of a residence in your home country and plan to return home.

I don't know how this works with VWP - but I think it is the same thing. Since VWP is also meant for people who do not intent to immigrate to the U.S. I believe you are supposed to have a 'permanent address abroad'.

Unfortunately I can't help you more - I don't know what you should put there. Maybe you can leave it blank. Or maybe a more 'senior' VJ member would know how to deal with that situation.

Keep in mind the I-130 is also used by USC's petitioning their spouses who are still residing abroad and need to apply for a spousal visa. If the foreign spouse resides in the US and is doing concurrent I-130/I-485, then I think the correct answer to the address abroad question would be "none" or "n/a".

That's what I thought.

I did have an apartment in the UK and I originally had every intention of going back there.

In the end, my parents had to go there and get my stuff when it turned out that I wasn't going back as planned.

My returnable deposit covered the rent that I owed, so my parents just told the landlord to keep it and returned the keys.

I assumed that the reason it asked for the address abroad was because the form is intended for use for many different circumstances.

I assumed that this part didn't apply to my particular set of circumstances, so I wrote 'none'.

Sharp eyed readers will notice that I used the word 'assumed' twice above.

Now I have a nugget of doubt about whether it's correct to write 'none' as an answer.

Has anybody written 'none' for this question and had their form approved or denied?

I'd like to hear from someone who actually has experience on this, and I imagine the OP would too...

Sorry if I freaked you out, doctorbeat Didn't mean to do that! My experience and information is mostly related to the F1 visa, so don't start worrying over this! F1 is a different story than VWP.

Don't worry about freaking me out, I've had at least one freak-out per day since I found out about the vwp denials three weeks ago!

My obligation on the vwp was to maintain an address in the UK, but also I was obligated to leave after 90 days too, which I didn't.

I maintained an address until my circumstances changed.

If they want to deport me, they don't need something as trifling as the fact that I have no UK address...

If you are single then put single. But you have stated below that you are currently "Adjusting your Status" so meaning that you are currently married.

Put N/A as you don't need the PI address anymore.

Hi, just curious. When does getting a Social Security Number become possible? Is it after the EAD approval? Thanks.

Yes, I believe that is correct.

I think you take the EAD to the SS office and they give you an SSN.

That's the impression I got, but I haven't actually done this, so maybe another member who has actually done this can confirm...
