Hello,

I would like to ask a question for someone i know.

he's applying on a 5 year rule.

what DOCs. he needs to submit beside his N-400 Application?

he's been outside of the country for 1 month from the 6 years.

How many years of tax return he needs to submit ? Or what DOCs. he needs to take with him to the Interview? . I read somewhere he dont need Tax Documents at all, if he never been outside of the country for 6 month trip, if 6 months a trip, then he needs 5 years Tax return.

Oh, he has his 10 Years GC for almost 5 years.

Thanks alot.

Not many docs at all are needed when basing on five years of residency.

N-400Marriagedivorcedocs.jpg

Most of the above has to do with basing on 3 years of marriage and continuous residence with a US citizen.

it doesn't say anything about how many years of tax.

None required in filing unless had been out of the USA longer than 6 months.

I have read a few posts where people brought them (Past 5 years worth) to naturalization interview, and not being asked for them. Can also bring IRS Transcripts, they are free and easy to get.

Practically needed a wheel barrel for my wife under the three year for evidence. Practically nothing for my stepdaughter for the five year, never married, never divorced, she only had one short trip outside of the USA and a good share of her N-400 had N/A's typed in it.

Not fully recovered from this when she was 17 months old battery charge she was suppose to prove, that was a shocker, but resolved now. But went to the N-400 form site and just printed out the evidence required sheet and check it off with a pen. Included a copy of her green card, two passport photos, a check for the then super cheap price of only 675 bucks, its 680 bucks now, and that evidence sheet. Put it in a brown envelop, barely weighed over an ounce, so stuck two first class stamps on it and mailed it off. Was accepted.

For her interview, she did bring along another two passport photos, her interview letter, her green card, and her foreign passport book. Also had her take four years of tax transcripts and her GPA sheet as evidence, but her IO didn't even want to see them. Forgot to ask her if her IO even looked at her passport. She is not like her mom where every minor detail of her interview was given to me in great detail. Her interview lasted about 12 minutes from the time she was called in to the time she came back. Watch has a stop watch function. Her moms' lasted over 43 minutes.

But she did tell me she did pull out her GPA and tax transcripts and went to hand those to her IO, he knows she had them, but didn't want to see them. As you can tell, I am paranoid with the USCIS, more than likely if she didn't those five thin pieces of paper, he would have wanted to see them. She came out with a big smile on her face, was told a decision cannot be made at this time, but she passed. I didn't have a smile on my face, what the heck is going on. Turned out to be a miscommunication error that two weeks of stress finally worked its way out and calls to my senators office.

Now if she can be good for the next two weeks, here she even has to report traffic violations for some strange reason, but she never got a ticket after she was 18 years old. Something magical about that age when the parents are no longer responsible. Also crazy, we had to show up in court because she was a minor, but when it came time for us to get proof she did indeed pay those fines, was told only she can get that piece of paper. Like we never knew about it! Even pointed that out to the clerk of court, but she said its the privacy law.

Its stuff like this that convinces me, we are dealing with a bunch of idiots. Willing to bet if your friend doesn't bring in his tax transcripts, will be asked for them, even though their evidence sheet says you don't have to have them.

Ha, also proof he paid for his traffic violations, if he had any. Glad this part of our journey is coming to an end, always pulling something you can't plan for or don't think you have to.
