I crossed the border Friday night between Canada and Detroit tunnel. I was escorted into secondary when I tole the BG at the booth I had my envelope to activate my visa.

I then went inside with my son who was with me and they searched my vehicle which had all kinds of boxes of clothes and stuff!

We were second in line when we got inside. A greyhound bus from Canada pulled in and they processed all of those people ahead of me. I was not too happy and couldn't figure out why they did that!

Finally after they were all done and BG called me up to the desk and said "so you want to move here do ya"..I laughed and said "yes sir". Then I handed him my sealed packet and he told me it would be a couple of minutes and we'll get you out of here. I had to have my right index finger imprinted and I signed a document which will be my card. He said it would take close to six months to receive it. He stamped my passport and wrote CR1 in it and Then that was it I was free to leave.

All in all a very quick process had it not been for the darned greyhound bus.

Now I'm an American..kind of.. :D

Six months to get card? You mean green card? Ouch, I was thinking 4-8 weeks for the green card to arrive, I was planning on it. We'll be selling my husband's property, a honeymoon is planned, and one last look at the island and family before we settle down in the US. Hmmm, back up plan needed.

Regardless,

:dance:CONGRATULATIONS!

and

:dancing: Welcome Home! :dancing:

Apologies if I state in a comment that my husband and I have been together for years & years. It's just that I can hardly remember a time when he and I were not together.

Ahhhhhhhhhh!!! We are currently in Administrative Processing with no time-lines to guide us!

My husband is looking at cars in Trinidad for me as his wish has come true! Me a Trini-Wife!

BUT

I will call DoS weekly to check the progress and I will not give up hope.

July of 2011 is the cut off date for us, when I will either start construction on a home here in the US or return to Trinidad to be with my husband.

I'm sure they said that as in the upper end of the spectrum. I got my green card after about 4 weeks

Also, don't wait to get your SSN in the mail, go to the SSA, it will be quicker

So, when they stamp your passport at the border, it acts like a temporary green card? You can cross in an out freely with it?

Welcome to the USA, enjoy your new life

According to the SS office you must wait 3 weeks from POE to inquire about a card. They can't do anything until that time has elapsed...this was what my wife was told in mid January of this year. She returned at the 3 week point and had her card the next week.

May love and laughter light your days,
and warm your heart and home.
May good and faithful friends be yours,
wherever you may roam.
May peace and plenty bless your world
with joy that long endures.
May all life's passing seasons
bring the best to you and yours!

They were probably February filers. They seem to get processed before everyone these days.
