Hello,

This is probably my second post about PCCs. Please anyone having information help me out here.

I went to my local police station today for getting my PCC, I was told that they cannot proceed with my verification unless I have an invitation letter from the US consulate for my interview date. Now my worry is that sometimes I have heard people do not even receive a packet 3, they just download everything from the website. What should I do in that case? How do I go about getting a verification. Bribes don't always work in India. :P

Secondly, the Mumbai consulate website says that if you have been issued a passport in the past 6 months then you need a PCC only from local passport office. I am applying for a new ( reissue) of passport in this week. My passport expires at the end of this year and I want to have my new one ready before my K1 interview. My question is, in this case so I need to PCCs or just one from local passport office as a new passport was issued.

Just some background info- we are almost at the 6 month mark( 6 months next week) from getting our No1. NO2 should hopefully happen anytime soon. So I need to start gatering documents ASAP!

Any help will be appreciated. Thank You

I got approved on 28th after waiting 7 months, my case has not yet reached NVC. I applied for my PCC from my local police station and they said i could come collect it sometime this week. I dont think you should have any problem getting a LOCAL PCC. I am going to the passport office tomorrow to apply for my Second PCC that usually takes 30 to 45 days. I figure by the time my Passport PCC comes my case will have reached the Chennai Consulate and ill be ready with all my documents. I dont understand why the local police are not agreeing, its not like they have much to do anyway. Plus If your passport expires in 6 months time yes you can apply for a new passport and you would only require a local PCC if i am not mistaken. Did you check the VFS website ?

Thanks Claytlin. I dont know why they are refusing to give a PCC without a letter from the consulate. The police officer said and I quote " we cannot keep giving everybody a PCC until we have an official reason to do so".

I will apply for my new passport soon so then I would just need a Police clearance from passport office. should I also submit the police clearance certificate form along with my reissue of passport application. Thanks so much.

"Is residing in India and is his or her Passport was issued within past 6 months" then only Passport Clearance is required at the Passport Office. You can find the form online or you can personally go and apply for one. I suggest first you go ahead and get your new passport. You dont have to submit anything other than your old passport and the application and if required address proof or other documents. The Passport office conducts its own independent inquiry with the local police, if i am not mistaken.

Thank you for all your help Claytlin. I managed to submit my PCC application at the Police Commissioners office here. I will be applying for my renewed passport too and along with that the PCC from passport office.

One last question- Do I need the interview appointment letter for PCC from passport office? Thanks in advance.

I would check not only the VFS, but also the Mumbai consulate requirements. AFAIK, much of the PCC requirements were amended last year and many consulates only require the regional passport office (RPO) PCC. The reason being that the RPO already does a round of checking on you when it issues you the original passport; thus the need for only the RPO PCC if the passport was gotten within the last 6 months. I would go w/ what the above suggested and get your new passport ASAP. These days, with tatkal service, you can have your passport in your hand within 3 days (I know that's what it took my wife last year when she applied for her new passport at the Bangalore RPO).

while its good that you're getting all the ducks in a row for the NVC stage, I would also caution from getting the PCC too far ahead in advance. From what I know, the PCC had to have been obtained within 6 months of the the interview date. Please re-check and make sure. However, since much time has already passed since the NOA1 and now you're awaiting the NOA2, I think it might be ok to go ahead and prep up for getting the PCC.

I know that the B'lore RPO didnt require any letter, but I've heard horror stories of Ahmedabad RPO asking for the letter before issuing a PCC. Not sure about Mumbai, but pretty sure that they also dont require one. Make sure you have some Rs in your hand...
