George Romney was born in Mexico on Mexican soil to non-diplomat parents, so that constitutionally disqualified him out of the box.

This question would better have been asked 39 years ago, when George Romney (Mitt's dad) wished to run as GOP candidate for POTUS--and got defeated by "both parties' tradition" of nominating eligible, incumbent POTUS (even when this was obviously disastrous as in 1980) as their candidate. Had it not been for this, US could already have been through a Mormon President.

(but Mitt as POTUS--only when you actually see snow in Kolkata).

How so? The Constitution says "natural born", it doesn't say "born on US soil".

Yeah if you're born overseas with at least one US parent you are a USC at birth as long as either mom or dad files the right forms and pays uncle sam.

It's not that cut and dried for presidential candidates. The issue of what makes one a "natural born USC" hasn't been tried before the Supreme Court, but has been raised many times in regard to George Romney, Barry Goldwater, Lowell Weiker and John McCain. In McCain's case, a federal court determined that it was "highly probable, for the purposes of this motion for provisional relief" that he was a natural born citizen at the time of his birth in the Panama Canal Zone. However, the issue remains unsettled in general.

Factoid for you, which you missed: George Romney had TWO USC parents, which meant he unquestionably fitted the Constitutional requirements (though this took some time to find, due to never having had such a case before; Romney was ruled Constitutionally eligible in 1972)!!!!

Questioning McCains citizenship qualifications was just plain dumb. Love him or not, he was a hero in Vietnam.

No link? You must not be confident of this hard to find information. I am aware that Romney had two American parents, but that only makes him a US citizen, not necessarily a "natural born citizen", meeting the intent and definition of such under the US Constitution. That definition remains unsettled.
