Hi,

We seriously need some help regarding immigration interview for CR-1 catagory. Here is the little back group, I will try to make it to the point.

My wife and I got married in June. Wedding in June was just with close family members. Only about 10-15 people. We got the marriage certificate (with June wedding date) and filed I-130. We DON'T have much pictures to show for this wedding and invitation card and marriage certificate shows that wedding was at my HOME. And invitation card also shows that wedding was in the "afternoon".

We did our grand wedding in January with about 500 people (friends/family) and we have awesome wedding album to prove that. Invitation card for this wedding says that wedding was "at night at party plot" and ofcourse pics shows everything.

Here are the possible interview questions we are not sure what to answer:

Any suggestions are welcome.

We have to tell them that we got married in JUNE. And since we don't have picture for JUNE wedding, we will show them January wedding.

1) Should we go ahead and tell them that we had two weddings?

2) Should we not tell them, unless we are asked specifically about that?

3) Do we have to give them wedding invitation card? If yes, only from JUNE wedding, or both JUNE and JANUARY wedding?

Please HELP

If asked you can tell the CO that you has 2 weddings. That you got legally married in June and renewed your vows in January. Take pictures from both weddings to show the CO. It's not unusual for people to have a small legal wedding and then later have a big wedding affair.

This is 100% true! Don't be too concerned as MANY, MANY people have civil wedding and later have larger elaborate wedding when time and finances permit! My husband and I had a small church wedding in Trinidad with his closest friend and his girlfriend as witnesses. We intend to have an elaborate 'renewing of vows' here in the US once we are settled. There will be no problem with such a thing! My husband has his interview in a few days and a smaller civil wedding ceremony and few pictures is not a concern at all.

But definitely take pictures for both!

Apologies if I state in a comment that my husband and I have been together for years & years. It's just that I can hardly remember a time when he and I were not together.

Ahhhhhhhhhh!!! We are currently in Administrative Processing with no time-lines to guide us!

My husband is looking at cars in Trinidad for me as his wish has come true! Me a Trini-Wife!

BUT

I will call DoS weekly to check the progress and I will not give up hope.

July of 2011 is the cut off date for us, when I will either start construction on a home here in the US or return to Trinidad to be with my husband.

June is the one they're really concerned with to start since it makes the whole process legitimate. The January wedding will show ongoing relationship. Show proof of them both proudly!!!!!!!!!!

You made it to the interview without RFE's that itself is a good deal there, so for the interview just answer the questions honestly and explain the facts clearly.

We had a small hindu wedding in june in india but we dont have many pictures for that. Specifically we dont have pictures of phera and all . But we got a marriage certificate based on whatever pictures we had and filed our I130. We had a later grand wedding in january with lots of pictures. My interview is there in few days and I am confused as to which pictures to show if they ask me for wedding pictures. I can show June pictures but i m scared that they might notice we dont have the hindu ritual pictures. Or should I just go about showing january pictures . Please tell me what to do .

You have a lot of "proof of relationship". Be honest and show all of these pics.

Good Luck

Lots of people have two "weddings". I would send in pictures of you in a wedding dress with your husband, family, etc. This just shows you actually did have a ceremony and it wasn't just on paper. They just want to see proof!

You should read my wife's interview review to get the full details. but here goes. I (the USC) had a very similar situation w/ my wife and I. We had a small western-style wedding in Sept 2009 at a local restaurant in Bangalore with ~ 40 guests. we did have pics and videos for that though. We then got the marriage registered (as they often do in India, so no big deal there). due to deaths of her grandma and the mourning period, we had to wait 3 months for our big-fat-Indian-wedding which wasnt till Dec 2. So in the meantime, I came to the US and filed the I-130. When I initially filed, I submitted the certificate of marriage registration, affidavits from a friend of mine and my parents (so 3 total) and some evidence of financial support (which I later on realized was probably not necessary). I sent her money a few times through xoom.com and so included those records. I also ordered credit cards in her name under my account from my credit card companies. also i named her as beneficiary on my 401k and life insurance policies. so i sent in photocopies of all those things. when dec 2009 came, we had the big wedding and more pics, big invitation card etc etc. the I-130 got accpeted w/o any issues.

fast fwd 3 months to the interview in Chennai, my wife took both the sept wedding and dec wedding pics. she got asked why the 2 weddings. my wife explained that her grandma had died and so we had to wait till dec to have the fancy wedding. she showed the big dec album (which cant be shoved thru the interview window). now here's the important question - the CO asked if she was legally married in september (ie the sept wedding), to which she of course replied yes. this is key - you have to say you were married the 1st time of marriage itself (which we were). otherwise it can be construed as you lying on the I-130 (ie, since I filed before the dec wedding). the CO was cool about it and understood and it wasnt an issue.

I think all you really need for the I-130 filing is the affidavits, which you can get from those who attended the wedding. make sure you explain things properly in the affidavit. We didnt send any pics or wedding cards, btw - not even in the NVC stage. BUT the CO did ask to see the wedding card for the december wedding which my wife showed. you can email me directly to get the details.

Once in awhile, right in the middle of an ordinary life, love gives us a fairy tale - My beautiful wife Soni
