Hi

I need an urgent help from any VJers gone through similar experience. Our case is currently at NVC and we are enrolled in Electronics Processing, recently I have scanned and sent all original DS 230 package documents, now we got RFE asking for ORIGINAL MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE, but our confusion is We have already sent the original one we got form Registrar office in Indian where our marriage took place.

Our marriage was performed by local priest, who issued a certificate, which is in our native language. We have certified translation of that certificate issued by registrar office, which I have sent already but We did not send the one issued by the local priest.

When NVC ask for Original Marriage Certificate, do they mean they need the one issued by Local Priest as well?

Any help from somebody with similar experience would be much helpful

I have not gone through a similar situation but it is my understansing that all translated documents should be accompanied by the original to be valid (at least this is what I was told by a translation company that translated my birth certificate). So, if I am not mistake, you should send the original one in Indian. (I might be wrong!)

you mean the Indian tribes in Canada issued you a marriage letter which you misunderstood as a marriage certificate? check the below table and look at the reciprocation agreements with your country Canada. :bonk: :bonk:

check this link: (looks like Canada has all sorts of marriage certificates)

Hi

Looks like your marriage took place as per the muslim traditions which i believe are different. check this link for muslim marriages in India and if you are a muslim then the registar office will not register your marriage, read the below link carefully, majority of India are Hindus and their marriage is voluntarily registered as per the Hindu act and are issued a marriage certificate by offices of Government Registrar of Marriages, which are located in the headquarters of each district. For Hindu marriage a priest will not issue any certificate it is the local government who does it as per the Hindu Act.

for muslims certificate of marriage between Muslims is usually issued by the priest who performed the ceremony.

Yes they need the local language document as well, you cannot just submit the translation alone.

FROM NVC website:

All documents not written in English, or in the official language of the country in which application for a visa is being made, must be accompanied by certified translations and submitted to the NVC. The translation must include a statement signed by the translator stating that the:

* Translation is accurate, and

* Translator is competent to translate.

http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3195.html

Edit: wanted to add, since you sent the marriage certificate from the registrar office, there was no need to send the translation of certificate by priest. I am not sure but i think certificate by priest is used for getting marriage registered and get the marriage certificate from the registrar and you only need to send that one to NVC but since you have sent a translation of a document without the document itself, it triggered a confusion and an RFE.
