Hurray, Packet 3 is in the mail so we are trying to figure out how to fill out the forms (and what forms to fill out) and how to pay the fee and schedule the appointments.

I just read that the DS-260 is for I-130 visas. But K1-ers should fill it out too? Right?

http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_5164.html

"Form DS-260, Online Immigrant Visa Application, and Form DS-261, Choice of Address and Agent, will be used by immigrant visa applicants starting October 4, 2010, whose applications meet ALL of the following conditions:

* The petition was approved in the U.S. and the immigrant case is being processed by the National Visa Center (NVC); and

* The NVC requested fees and/or documents in October 2010 or later; and

* Applications are for immigrant family based (Form I-130 petition), employment based (Form I-140 petition), certain special immigrants (Form I-360 petition), and immigrant entrepreneur (Form I-526 petition); and

* Visa applicants to be interviewed at selected U.S. Embassy/Consulate pilot locations which include:

o Canada - Montreal

o Greece - Athens

o Jordan - Amman

o Iraq - Baghdad

o Mexico - Ciudad Juarez

o Mexico - Mexico City

o Lima, Peru

While use of the online forms is currently limited to applicants who meet all of the conditions above, these forms will eventually be implemented worldwide" and required for all immigrant visa applications.

Congrats!

We filled it out mainly because the packet-3 letter says to. As far as scheduling the appointments, paying the MRV fee, etc. it should be pretty straightforward on their site.

But, they won't let us schedule the interview until we have packet 3 in our hands. Boo! It was mailed 9 days ago and we want to make the interview for mid-May. We're worried that the slots will fill up for the time that we want to go.

I thought that I read that others had scheduled the interview before packet 3 arrived by mail. Hmmm... Maybe we just got the wrong person.

I agree with Danilu in that that's probably their reasoning as to why they won't schedule anything till you physically have the letter. I remember someone recently scheduling their appointments without the letter but it might've been just because the one rep they got on the phone forgot to ask. I suggest you keep trying till someone randomly forgets to ask you about it too.

We actually called several times to inquire about various things and each time I explained to the representative that I was trying to schedule the appointments before the letter arrived. Each time the person said "fine" until we actually called to schedule the appointment.

I'm sure like everyone, we are trying to juggle life around this appointment and the sooner we get it scheduled the sooner we can plan other things around it. I feel that we are scheduling it far enough in advance (over a month after they mailed packet 3) that getting packet 3 in time won't be a problem.

Maybe we'll call back today.

Usually you can schedule an interview for the following week after receiving the letter in the mail. If you still want to schedule just try not mentioning the letter at all.

Okay so the more I look into stuff the more confused I get.... There is a lot of conflicting information out there and a lot of it I'm reading straight off of government issued documents... SO here it's referring to form D-160 but Blam's letter refers to the D-260. When I try to get to form 260 it asks me for NVC number and invoice number- is the NVC number what I was using the whole 5 months to check in with USCIS? Okay, then where do I find an invoice number? The only other reference number I have is my current CDJ number. About to try to look for 160. Guys,my brain hurts un chingo.

hi maria. i need ur help :(

I have this same problem, how did u get ur Invoice ID number?

thank u :(

Call the NVC and they will give it to you. Thats what I did.

hi everyone

I have a question do I need to fill out any of the Affidavit of Support forms for the Inerview

Thanks for the help!!!!!

Technically you don't have to. But it does make it easy to organize your the financial information you want to present. Just be prepared to be asked for the 2010 tax transcript (or return), pay stubs, and letter from employer. Thats what we were asked for.

Does anyone know if calling the DHL office will help know if the visa is there? I know calling the consulate help-line and looking online does not usually help.

Was Friday a holiday? I bet that slowed your visa. I hope that you get it today! To answer your question, I can't imagine that calling would help much, but it can't hurt - at least they might be on the look out for your name. Good luck!

We are hoping to receive packet 3 today or tomorrow.

Juarez just got our petition but they "can't" tell us when they exactly received it. They're also telling me the same thing they told Katwood about the beneficiary being the only one that receives the invitation letter. I hate how they keep giving the same consistently wrong info.

We were told that we could "download" packet 3 if it didn't come in a certain amount of time. Were you that too? We're not sure where to "download" packet 3...craziness...we'll call again today. My fiancé will never get it if it is only mailed to his house. They barely have running water, so mail service is horrible!
