The main concern that your photo is not a good evidence, if you compare them there are discrepancies on the bone structure

1. looking at the spine, the spine of the top photo with the seems too straight as compared to the spine of the bottom photo. In the bottom photo, the owner seems to have scoliosis.

2. If you would look at the curvature of the rib cage, top side of both photo, the top photo is wider as compared to the bottom photo.

Assuming that the distance of the body from the x-ray plate differs, the spinal cord and rib cage curvature should not have a big difference at all.

I'm no doctor, I'm just trained to analyze picture to prove or disprove a point. :P

I'm no doctor, I'm just trained to analyze picture to prove or disprove a point. :P

The pictures were posted as a joke, not as evidence.

They came as a matched set off of google images.

somebody probably put them together to demonstrate a chest w/o pneumonia and one with pneumonia

When I disclosed that it was a joke, I also said I didn't know if it was the same patient or not and I spent zero time analyzing whether they were or not

because it is totally irrelavant.

Im assuming we are past anyone thinking that is milk filling up the lung in the 2cnd picture.

Someone said that mucus can't mask scar tissue on an xray.

that's wrong and I pointed out that it can even mask bone.

You don't need the first picture to know that you can't see the ribs behind the pneumonia on picture B.

Look at the ribs on both sides of picture B. Can you see the same number of ribs on both sides? No

because the pneumonia (mucus) is masking the ribs. you either see em or you don't.

A normal spine from the front looks straight. from the side normal spines are curved

rotate the patient a little and you have what might look like scoliosis.

picture A is symmetrical

picture B the patient is rotated

The clavicles on picture A look straight

The clavicles on picture B look curved

thats not because one patient has straight clavicles and the other has curved clavicles

Its because of positioning.

The distance of the body to the xray plate does not vary much.

I would guess that picture A was done standing at a chest board with the xray beam entering from the rear of the patient, the beam is diverging from the source

thereby magnifying the structures at the back of the chest in relation to the structures in the front. the standard source to image would be 72"

I would guess that picture B was done portable with the patient sitting with the xray plate behind him, thereby reversing the magnification mentioned above or laying

on the xray plate. If the patient is laying on the plate then the source to image distance would probably be only 40 inches which causes greater magnification than 72 inches.

The heart looks much bigger in a patient that is laying down.

Im not trying to convince you that A and B is the same patient.

I don't have any particular reason to think that it is. but you can certainly alter a patients appearance with positioning.

back to my point that mucas can mask bone, one picture is sufficient.
