Doodle how long have you guys known eachother? I think you'll have lots of fun in Egypt.

Sarah

It's going on 7 months so far. Yeah I can't wait to see him but I'm also dying to see the pyramids, the sphynx, and all that stuff too. Everytime something is Egypt related on the history or discovery channel I'm glued to the tv!

I know I love it when they do shows on Egypt!

I saw a special show on Egypt the other day hosted by Inspector Gadget, it was pretty amusing.:blush:

yeah i wouldn't be going for the nice weather factor that's for sure. I just figure if it takes us approx 11 months from start to finish to get a visa then it would be like a half way point where we could see each other instead of sweating out the entire time away from each other. I'd rather sweat together. No way could I wait until two weeks before though since I'd have to plan on the kids being with their dad and request vacation ahead of time. Who knows, maybe fares will miraculously go down or something. You'd think it would just because of the brutal temps!

Interestingly enough, it is high season in the summer . . . mostly because you are going thru Europe I believe. airfares always go up particularly at the end of May.

As for the weather, I like March as it is not so cold but not so hot . . . but even at the end of Feb I think it got to 90 degrees when I went to see the Pyramids (they told me "Welcome to Egypt" . . . "weather is good just for you").

Only good thing about being there in the summer (I have been in June/July), after it cools off at night . . . say if you are out at 11pm or so . . it feels wonderful. Not like in Texas where the heat just never seems to go away during the summer . . . but at least we have A/C here everywhere.

I would not attempt to go to Luxor in the summer . . . that gets VERY hot during the summer and I prefer to not do any touristing at that time . . . but a Nile cruise wouldn't be so bad if you stay on the boat all the time, LOL!!!

I agree..reconsider going in the summer. I LOVED Egypt in winter...HATED it in summer. My trip in the summer is the reason why I have NO desire to go back to Egypt any time soon. It's absolutely miserable in the summer. It was hot, humid, stinky...just miserable. Thank God I wasn't in Cairo in summer...I can imagine the air pollution and smog. Kafr Dawar has it's own special problem in the summer...over abundance of giant flying cockroaches. Those things are as big as mice. You can see them running in the street even in the dark. Uck..it gives me the creeps just thinking about it.

Heya Doodle :)

I'd seriously reconsider going in the summer. If the heat wasn't bad enough, add the humidity on top of that and the air pollution and if you have any kind of health problems, it might be a bad idea.

Of course, this is what I hear from people, and fiance says it's awful as well.

And, I can understand not wanting to wait to see him again either. I'm facing the same dilemma, I just know I won't do well in the summer.

Seriously, you are a lucky woman  and I love Egyptology too . . . we have a chapter of ARCE here in North Texas and I used to go to their lectures all the time. . . . when I had time. I have a nice little collection of books though!

Yes, Alexandria is on agenda for a future trip . . . I'd like to see more than a quick drive thru in one day while visiting some ppl. Of course, getting there can be an adventure too . . . express bus up in the morning and train back to Cairo at night, hehe. I noticed that everyone that can will leave Cairo to head north for a couple of weeks at least.
