I've always flown to Cairo on Lufthansa

Dallas- Frankfurt- Cairo. My whole family only flies with Lufthansa. In my opinion it's the best!

But they don't fly to every major US city..

Hi cbd2cai!!!! haha

Hi, Nouna!! Your mom is the reason I flew Lufthansa the first time, LOL!!! As you well know, hehe!

I'm glad you made this thread Doodlebug, I had been thinking of making one myself.

I haven't booked my ticket yet. I'm actually leaving about 11 days or so after you I guess.

Can I ask how much you paid for your ticket and what days of the week you're travelling on etc? I'm trying to figure out the cheapest ticket.

:)

-The Prophet Muhammad (SAW), as reported by Anas bin Malik

A time will come when the sky is torn apart; when the stars scatter, and the ocean drains away; and when the graves are tossed about, and laid open. At that time every man will be told what he has done, and what he has failed to do; and every woman will be told what she has done, and what she has failed to do.

Middle of the week is usually the cheapest time to fly, but you can get some good deals on other days too if you check around. Just be aware that airfares do go up around the holidays. Say if you are flying in December, then they might go up starting on the 21st . . . but I got a cheaper flight out of DFW on Xmas day to Cairo last year . . . So just check it out. oh, and cheaper doesn't mean "really cheap" lol . . . still costs more than I like to pay to go that far!

Lufthansa's website might have some specials listed (I've been getting emails about "fly cheap to Europe").

WOW this thread is a blast from the past.

The tickets cost a total of $1,295 via hotwire. I'm taking British Air and leaving December 25 at 8:30pm and finally arriving in Cairo on December 26 at 11:05 pm. Leaving Cairo on Friday Jan 5 at 8:45am :crying: and arriving back in Boston on Friday Jan 5 at 6:40pm.

I think I could have gone cheaper with another airline but I really trust British Air to get me there safely. This will be my first trip out of the US so I"m petrified.

I'm a wee bit afraid myself, but my fiance knows how I feel and I know I will safe while I'm there with him, and that he'll be looking out for me all the time.

Plus, I'm sooooooo excited about finally going after so long!!!!

Hi Doodlebug! Try Expedia....I got great deals both times to Cairo (I even flew my mom with me the second time!) I found tickets to Cairo from Denver from $850-$1300 (some much more but those were the 2 best prices the 2 times I went) and I have been watching there prices lately to and have seen some go as low as $699!!! (as long as you are flying in the near future withou it being completely last minute and a midweek flight)

I was very scared too...going to Cairo was my first time on a plane- 19 hours! It was great, I love traveling now! Your going to have a great time dont worry! :D

I've been looking for a month now for a cheap flight in either June or July and so far the very cheapest is AirItalia, which I hesitate to take since I've read some pretty bad reviews, for $1,300. I guess summer is a bad time to go. Either that or the price maybe will go down as it gets nearer.

Yeah...Summer is much more expensive. There was a $500 difference from when I went in September than when I went in December. If you Have the nerves of steele there are usually great prices 2 weeks out (but not less than that they usually go up dramatically for less than 2) I've been keeping track since both my trips and since I started obsessing Day and Night about when we get our visa and I get to fly my husband here.

Heya Doodle :)

I'd seriously reconsider going in the summer. If the heat wasn't bad enough, add the humidity on top of that and the air pollution and if you have any kind of health problems, it might be a bad idea.

Of course, this is what I hear from people, and fiance says it's awful as well.

And, I can understand not wanting to wait to see him again either. I'm facing the same dilemma, I just know I won't do well in the summer.

Cairo in the summer is like an oven. I found the traffic fumes combined with the heat really got to me. There is nothing worse (for me) then being stuck in a taxi with no air conditioning (most of them don't have it unless you want pay $$$$$$$$$) in unmoving traffic at mid day. Blahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. You melt.

yeah i wouldn't be going for the nice weather factor that's for sure. I just figure if it takes us approx 11 months from start to finish to get a visa then it would be like a half way point where we could see each other instead of sweating out the entire time away from each other. I'd rather sweat together. No way could I wait until two weeks before though since I'd have to plan on the kids being with their dad and request vacation ahead of time. Who knows, maybe fares will miraculously go down or something. You'd think it would just because of the brutal temps!
