airline from us to cairo

Ok peeps, nothing to do with visa's but I'm about to book my trip from the US (Boston) to Cairo. The shortest duratios are with either Alitalia or Air France, both with layovers of a min of 1 1/2 hour to a max of 3 hours.

Which would you experienced folk choose?

I've flown Northwest and British Airways to Cairo. Both are decent, although Northwest's planes are old and there's always an 8 hour layover in Amsterdam

From what I hear, Airfrance is evil. Avoid the evil

They overbooked the flight. Caused delays on each plane. Made me miss my connection and then delays on the next flight I took. They lost my luggage and they where totally rude.

I don't even know where Zurich is on a map!!

If you're adventursome, buy a little pocket map and wander about for awhile.

On my last 8 hour layover in Amsterdam, I did just that. Of course, I realized I didn't have a watch to tell me when to get back to the airport ($50 out the window for one from duty free). Then, I got on the wrong train. Luckly, almost everyone there speaks english and a nice lady noticed by Amsterdam map and pointed me back in the right direction. Then, I got to Amsterdam and I was petrified that I would miss my plane, so I only stayed out there for an hour, and then hurried as fast as I could back to the airport and sat there for 5 hours

Helpful hints - exchange $20 or $30 into Euros for your layovers, snacks at the airport. Maybe a little more if you go exploring. Don't exchange for LEs (egyptian pounds) until you get to Cairo. You'll get a much better rate.

I've flown British Air, Air France and Swiss Air --- Air France don't do it. Swiss Air is an incredibly nice airline. The food was even good. Great service everything. Zurich is in Switzerland. It's a nice airport although they were doing renovations when I was last there so I'm sure by now it's really nice. I didn't get a chance to go into the city but it's suppose to be quite nice. BA is a good airline too - however they had some problems on my last flight to Morocco but ended up being accomodating and they didn't lose my luggage. Of the two I think Swiss Air is better and would love to fly with them again if only they went to Morocco haha...
