Ukraine Flight

WHAT is going on with flights to Ukraine? I used to get them all the time for about $800 or $900. I honestly can't find anything under $1700 or $1800 (without being 27 hrs long). I actually checked on British Airways and was quoted a price of $7400 for ONE ticket?! I was hoping some of the other Ukrainie visajourney-ers had some advice! I've tried Delta/KLM, BA, kayak, momondo, tripadvisor...

Are you trying one way or round trip? Oddly, round trip is usually much cheaper...

I was just looking at round-trip from Austin to Kiev for $1270.

Yeah, I've been doing round trip (we both live in the U.S. and we're flying home to see his parents), from Detroit to Kyiv. I'm noticing that there definitely aren't as many flights to Kyiv anymore and it's making me nervous!

Did you try Aerosvit Airlines? I got my wife a one way ticket for $377 from Chisinau Moldova (through Kiev) to New York, but could only get this price a month in advance. My wife's interview is 6 days before the flight and of course there is no guarantee of approval, but the price was just way too good not to take a chance.

Try Aerosvit or Aeroflot websites directly. You will have to fly from New York/JFK but you can get a JetBlue cheap flight from Detroit

It's all about the dates. I was supposed to go in April and by mistake put March on Delta's site. It went from $1,095 R/T (in April) from New Orleans - Kiev down to $587 R/T (in March). I was at work and in shock. I went grabbed a cup a coffee, thought about for few minutes, said what the hell and bought the tickets, the price may change by the next hour to $1,000. And now $1,000 I have apartment and airfare. So, I'm going a month earlier than planned which is fine, I need get to Kiev.

also make sure you check the web sites on Wednesday as that is the day they start advertising sales. I use kayak normally to see what the prices are. the cheap seats normally sell out first but you can get a deal if a flight isnt full.

Kayak is fantastic, but you have to check it obsessively. Prices can change on the half hour.

I haven't seen if this works for Ukraine, but I know a Russian couple from St. Petersburg who always fly in to Copenhagen, and then take a 4-hour bus ride to St. Petersburg. I guess it winds up saving them about $400-$600 per ticket. With Ukraine, you'd probably have to check to see if you could fly into Europe somewhere, and then catch the rail. Like I said, I haven't looked into this option myself, but might be worth considering.

Where are you flying out of? I just did a search on Kayak and found a flight (Detroit-Kiev) leaving March 30 returning April 12 for $976.00 with Delta.

Good Luck!

I usually search at www.igougo.com. Just check the boxes of the websites you want to search. It's a little annoying when all the new windows pop up but I have used this for the last few years. I fly from Phoenix to Odessa and my tickets have been running right around $1000 give or take a $100. I have noticed flights from New York to Odessa cheaper because it includes Aerosvit and Aeroflot sometimes. You can also look at www.transaero.com. This is a Russian airline and at Christmas I paid $700 from New York to Odessa. I rarely buy tickets more than two weeks in advance and I have been lucky booking them only 2 to 3 days out.
