Since getting married in September of 2010 I have not changed my last name on my passport or bank accounts. In the U.S is it mandatory for me to change my name on all of these documents including my social security card?

And will it possibly look bad/hurt my case when I start the filing proecess for my husband that I haven't changed my name?

In the U.S how do I go about doing so? I would like to get it changed before I get an state I.D.

Thanks!

No, it is not mandatory in the US.

Yes, it may look bad/hurt your adjustment of status case but just make sure to file your taxes jointly, this is more important for the case.

Use your marriage cert to get the passport changed, then get state id and social and then greencard. But I believe the greencard has to be first then the rest will be easy. But it will cost you.

Name changes at marriage are personal choices. If you plan to change your name, then the sooner the better. You need not wait until all the formalities are complete to use the new name on immigration forms.

You don't have to change your name EVER if you don't want to, and it will NOT hurt your application in any way. It is completely a personal choice.

You said "process for your husband" so I assume that means he is the immigrant. I haven't read that you need to let USCIS know if you change your name after submitting the I-864 like you do for the address change. It would just be easier if you wrote your married name on docs, if you're choosing to take his name eventually.

Your first step would be to change the name on your SSN. You would take your marriage certificate and change it. Then you will be able to get State ID (or drivers licence) in your married name. You can change your bank account name just by showing your marriage certificate. You won't need to change your SSN first to get that done. Then you can just do stuff from there.

I see you're still continuing with things after telling him back in December it was over and him burning your stuff. Happy to read you sorted out your problems :D
