quite frankly the former VJ moderation team sucked. certain posters were allowed harass people everywhere except the regionals, basically doing what ever they wanted w/o reprisal & the bolden was a sad reality. the comfort zone thing i'm referring to also applies to embassy specific topics. (people are less likely to confuse requirements & procedures when there is no doubt that a thread they're following is about their embassy only) to idk about the embassy you & your SO are dealing with, but the PI embassy has changed requirements & procedure twice since my wife went thru her interview a couple years ago....the staff here is a volunteer staff, asking them to maintain each embassy's infomation & requirements is obsurd. the free flowing constantly updating neighbor helping neighbor format of VJ isn't broken. some sub forums may need to be rearranged to fix issues you've brought up. imo-eliminating the subforums would be a disater.

Posting a pinned list with all the appropriate links for each country's embassy/consulate should handle the situation. For at least the Manila embassy, the most current and relevant information is on their website.

thanks for the glowing endorsement laughing.gif

oops sorry. that was the first night of my vacation. can someone go put a 'sponsored by Anheuser-Busch ®' on that one for me?

LaL did go above & beyond to be fair to both sides of any arguement she found herself trying to quell. and Jenn! was the best moderator i've ever seen on any message board. the rest could be known as Dyson, Hoover, Filter Queen, or Kirby.

headsup: the rest of the weekend i'm being sponsored by Stolichnaya ® so i'm logging out now. :)

Thanks blush.gif, although I think that just goes to show you that how much you can't please everyone - I'm sure there would be many who would disagree with that.

I think I suspended AJ on election day, IIRC. whistling.gif

Just the once? To me, that represents incredible restraint on your part.

Relax, Pooky. Breathe easy, all is well in the world for Jenn did, in fact, suspend me more than once.

Phew!

For a moment I thought I'd crossed over into the Twilight Zone.

Brian, right? That's how this site originally was structured. It was much more streamlined - way less forums. It was changed with the best of intentions, and with a lot of support from many members here, but I think we've given it enough time to see that dedicating conversation-driven forums regionally, has done more harm than good.

Steven, no disrespect intended, but over the years, you have suggested even more splintering off of forums. I don't get the total 180 today.

I don't think regionals are the problem...there is NOTHING WRONG with people from the same region wanting to talk to each other. Why does it have to be specific to consulate only q's? There are many OT convos in the regionals, where if they were all in OT, one would have to wade through pages and pages of threads to get to something one might find interesting. Talking about British chocolate can be interesting to those brits/amers counterparts, but I doubt it would be interesting to anyone outside that region.

The regionals are not the problem. Certain people, and the tolerance for crazy misogynistic POVs are.

Perhaps it is time for the site to have a clear mission statement, and state so clearly. For instance, is this a culturally sensitive social network, a political discussion board, or a place to get timely information in order to facilitate the immigration process?

VJ Moderation has already gone on record stating this is not a social network.

this is not a social network.
So then, by extension, it's an antisocial network? Good -- I hate people, animals, and things, so I must be VJ's most valued member, si man.

As I mentioned earlier, the idea to splinter off the forum was with the best of intentions, but we've had enough to time to see how it worked out, and IMO, it has had more negative consequences than any positives gained.

If someone wanted to talk about how good British chocolate is, why couldn't that conversation happen among a larger group than just couples where one spouse is from that country?

Say what you will about the RUB forum but there is a lot of good immigration information on RUB issues. It helped me a lot. I'm an ex-submariner and I would like to think that it is difficult to embarass me. But, there is one person there that even makes me shake my head at times.

I think if we are being honest here there are anti family friendly rhetoric coming from the other side as well. RUB wives being called prostitutes without action from any MOD. Sometimes it looks like there is a double standard.

Anyway, I would like to thank those of you that have helped me and kept an open mind no matter how I chose to find my happiness...
