Mayor of Atlanta, Kasim Reed appears to have bought into this megaregions nonsense:

My goal is to make Atlanta the logistics hub for the western hemisphere, which is why I'm working to deepen the port in Savannah. We have the fastest growing port on the eastern seaboard, the fourth largest port in the United States.

Our job - and my job as mayor - is to be number one among southeastern cities because we're moving to a world where you're going to have mega regions. So, you will have a Chicago that is the center of the midwestern region, New York will maintain its dominance, and my view is that Atlanta will be the dominant force of the southeast. You're really going to have about eight or ten mega regions that will really determine the flow and growth of GDP in the United States.

Get out while you still can.blink.gif

all this bigotry towards the kansas state capital.

It's fine when you are going through to get somewhere else.whistling.gif

I am looking for a google streetview image of topeka to justify my bigotry but so far all the images i have ran into justify apathy and indifference more so than outright bigotry.

Don't worry. There are plenty of whites there for you to hate.good.gif

OK this is pretty funny. Watch the dates.

December 2, 2010:

To wrest hundreds of million of dollars from Washington to deepen the port of Savannah, Georgia is relying not on its Republican governor or GOP-dominated congressional delegation, but a Democrat -- Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed.

The Georgia Ports Authority and Georgia’s congressional delegation are lobbying the White House to include $105 million in President Barack Obama’s upcoming budget to deepen Savannah’s harbor, and 36 miles of river, by six feet. Georgia taxpayers have already put up $102.3 million for the project.

Thursday, Reed embraced his role as White House confidant before dozens of Georgia business and government officials gathered at the World Congress Center to push harbor-deepening and boost the port’s $8 billion annual economic impact on Atlanta and protect tens of thousands of jobs across the state.

February 14, 2011:

The Georgia Ports Authority asked for $105 million to jump-start dredging Savannah Harbor to a depth of 48 feet in time to accommodate the larger containerized cargo ships that will be using the Panama Canal when a widening project is completed there in 2014.

...

The only federal money the approximately $600 million project would receive under Obama's budget is $600,000 in "pre-construction" funds to help move along the approval process.

topeka serves a purpose - the highway splits there and goes south.

Topeka does have a nice GA airport that, at least ten years ago, had a fairly good restaurant on the premise. Good for what they call the $200 hamburger. Not that I eat hamburgers, but hey.
