GOP Primary 2012: Republicans like Gingrich and Huckabee while Independents like Palin and Huckabee...

Someone else seems to be the winner, and that is who my money is on.

The vast majority of Republican primary voters will be Republican, with Independents being the second largest group.

Within Republicans, both Gingrich and Huckabee beat "Someone else".

"Somebody else" is biding his time, and waiting for the right minute to jump in the race. "Somebody else" has won the Democratic primaries the last two times out when there was no heir-apparent to Clinton after Gore's loss, and the same holds true for the Republicans in 2012 after McCain floundered.

McCain was not "somebody else" in 2008.

Bush was not "somebody else" in 2000.

Dole was not "somebody else" in 1996.

Was Reagan "somebody else" in 1980?

Bush and Reagan were not the heir-apparent's. Nobody expected either one to get the nod. However, they were early on players. I still think this cycle will be different, and my only premonition is that it will probably be a governor, or ex-governor that gets nominated.

Out of those, I'd choose Huckabee too, though my favourite would be Jindal.

Last time I checked Romney and McCain both destroyed Huckabee in the primaries.

I guess he is a little more well-known this time around but he did really bad the last time.

I'd vote for Obama or stay home if Huckleberry, Palin, or Newt got the nomination.

It won't be Romney. Look at those poll numbers. They're killer.

Are we looking at the same table?

ALL: Newt 11...Sarah and Mitt 12....Huck 15

Even when looking at just the Republican line Mitt gets 15 to Sarah's 13 but Huck/Newt's 19

Where are the Sarah voters gonna go when she is not in the race (which she won't be)?

Way too early to tell imo. Remember everyone thought Guiliani was gonna win and he ended up winning 0 states, getting second place in 0 states, coming in 3rd place in Florida and then quitting.

EDIT: Mitch Daniels and Hailey Barbour are like the Huck and Mitt of 2008...

Look at the Tea Party line. Sarah Palin is the runaway favorite in that crowd. Given that the GOP has practically become hijacked by the Tea Party, how could Sarah Palin not run? And if she doesn't, they're not going to Romney - they hate his guts!

According to FOX News, neither Palin nor Huckabee are even signaling possible runs for the presidency. If they were, FOX would suspend their arrangements and eventually terminate them. There you go, right off the Republican state television.

Fox News suspends Newt Gingrich, Rick Santorum

Anchor Bret Baier announced on air late Wednesday morning that the network “has suspended its contributor arrangements” with Gingrich and Santorum for the next 60 days.

Both, Baier said, “have signaled possible runs for the presidency” and it “is Fox policy” for them to be suspended.

The suspensions will be lifted on May 1 if they notify the network by then that they are not planning to run. If they do not announce one way or the other by the the deadline, their contracts will be terminated, Baier said.

“This is the announcement that’s being made today,” Baier said, but “it does not preclude other announcements that may be made in the future” about other Fox employees who are flirting with White House runs.

...

Former Gov. Mike Huckabee hosts the weekend show “Huckabee” on the network and is considering running for president. He generally appears only on Fox News properties but has — for the last week and a half — been on other networks to promote his book, “A Simple Government.”

Another Fox contributor, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, is also considering a run for president, but has not been suspended. Former U.S. ambassador to the U.N. John Bolton appears frequently on the network to discuss international affairs and has been reported to be thinking about a campaign.
