After driving 1.5hrs each way last night to London, ON I picked up my Visa and Passport package (CR-1). Tonight I am driving to Indiana to see my husband and of course activate my visa. I have my car loaded with clothes so far and plan on the BIG move in 1.5 weeks time. I won't have a problem with this will I?

How long does it take to process this? Any idea? I imagine Fri. nights are probably busy, but we'll see.

My 16/year old son is coming along with me for the weekend, he needs to be back at school on Monday and my job ends Mar, 16th in Canada. He is not in the visa process yet, but I will get him started as soon as i'm settled down there. I won't have a problem with him coming into the USA for this either will I?

Thanks

I'm not a lawyer or anything, but I think you'll need a release from your sons father that states you can take him across the border. There's some international agreements that the US and Canada are part of that mandates this.

Edited to add: Where in Indiana are you moving to? My Canadian fiance will be moving to Indiana too.

I did my POE with just a carload of belongings, returned to Canada a week and a half later and made the final move a month following that. Had no issues whatsoever.

My POE (at Peace Bridge) took about an hour and a half, the majority of the time was spent sitting and waiting while they processed my paperwork.

I travelled solo for my POE but my eldest son came with me the second time for a visit. Now he was 20 at the time so no letter was required from his father. He was asked the usual questions, what he does (student, he had his university student card just in case), when he was returning (he was flying back so he had his return ticket)... no issues.

Since your son is only 16 I would recommend you have a letter of permission from his father authorizing travel.

That being said, I travelled back and forth for numerous vacations over 10 years with my boys and was never asked about their father! The one time I was asked for a permission letter was when I was as travelling with my eldest and his girlfriend who were both 19 at the time. I told the CBP officer that they were 19 and adults so why would I have a letter. He just let us through. Go figure.laughing.gif

Just wanted to add that I went back 6 months later to pick up my belongs out of a storage unit and brought them back in a 24' enclosed car hauler. I then drove again for a visit about a year and 4 months later and brought back more stuff that I had store at my parents. No problems at all. THey didn't even check the trailer.
