Hi all!

Applying for DCF in Dublin (CR-1 spousal visa). I've spent a couple of years in the US recently (on a student visa).

Now, they told me not to get police certificates for the US -- I expect they do their own checks. But I was wondering -- might that slow the process down for me? Will they have to contact the FBI for information on me? If I was applying for an FBI check I could do it now, but the consulate won't start until later, will they?

Thanks!

Dublin

March 1 2011: submit i-130 to Dublin, request medical records and police reports

March 20: told not enough evidence that we are actually resident in Ireland, i-130 returned

April 1: submitted again with lots of evidence.

May 9: Receive packet 3, return DS-230 part 1 and notice of readiness.

May 16: Receive notice of June 2 interview.

Nope, should not slow things down much, in all cases they do a background check via FBI.

And yes you do not need to apply for a police report from the USA.

things need to happen 'in order'

but note 'things' do happen 'in parallel' also.

There's nothing you can do to speed it up, alas.

Thankfully, automation has speeded up these checks, can get 'same week' turnaround these last 2 years.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

Thanks -- that's good news, on the whole!

The main thing which is slowing me down is my Japanese police report: it's free, but you need to go in person to the consulate twice (one to apply, once to pick up), and it takes about 2 months...

Oh yes the Japanese police reports can be a pain to get in some countries, read a few horror stories dealing with Japanese police report application in China.
