He was and I read his writings from before he became head of the Fed and he would talk about very sound monetary principles and even the need for a gold standard. His actions after taking the head Fed job showed differently though. He had no problem at all in just printing more money whenever needed. He could flip anyway that was needed and even Clinton kept him on. There is no mistake the man is smart. He even I remembered tried to sound some warnings but he was the head Federal reserve and did exactly what this country didn't need to be done. We need sound fiscal and monetary policies and he did neither. He can talk a good game though.

You can call him a Libertarian all you want but it does not make him one. Now just because a Libertarian thinks a certain ideology doesn't mean they are sound monetarily. The Federal reserve as it is set up is and Greenspan is a big reason in the way it is set up is in no way sound monetary fiscal practices. The Federal reserve has been set up and still is for one thing only and that is so as much money can be printed so that either 2 major parties can do anything they want and spend anyway they want with not much harm to come to them in their political cycles.

To make this short. The Two major political parties are what the Federal reserve is set up for. They take turns at the spigot. It was not long after Nixon took us off the gold standard that the Federal reserve would be truly able to serve their masters.

Trying to paint Greenspan as anything but a Libertarian is like saying the Pope isn't really Catholic. You fanboys just hate that a direct disciple of Ayn Rand actually came around to understanding the need for government oversight and intervention. He's a Libertarian pragmatist the way Reagan was a Conservative pragmatist. You Libertarian fanboys remind me of the Star Wars fanboys that were outraged when George Lucas "ruined" the Star Wars saga.
