That we would get some halfway decent lunches. Sooo not the case. Normally I can't identify what we are served so I don't eat. Today, we got hamburgers. Well, sort of. Little tiny not thoroughly cooked meat hunks in an aluminum pan. No buns, no cheese, no condiments (some lovely soul went and found some ketchup) leaving me with this as my lunch:

Do the cheap bastards pay you enough so you can go buy your own lunch?

We don't actually get a lunch hour so going and buying isn't an option. :( And really I'm too broke anyway to purchase food for myself.

at least you're eating today ... some people can't even count on that.

Well, what you see is about as much as I got through it. It tastes just like the burger that made me sick in Mexico and I was having a hard time with it so I just gave up.

We don't actually get a lunch hour...

Is that legal?

Probably, considering my hours are 9-5, which is only 8 hours. Everywhere else I've worked has been a 9-hour schedule, with a 1 hour lunch break, still leaving 8 hours of work.

for every 4 hrs you get 15min break... if there for 8 hrs working... you are entitled to 1 hr lunch. so.. work them just 7hrs 45mins (just shy of 2nd 4hr limit) and BAM! only 1 break n no lunches needed to be given!

corporate america... only legal way to rape the common ppl.

All I can say is wow. And not in a good way! I work lots of special events at different museums around DC/VA and usually love when Occassions is the caterer because we get such great "left-overs". But I am starting to like them less if this is the way they treat their own employees, especially since I used to cater myself and know how much hard work it is! Guess I will have to hope for Well Dunn or Design next time.

Design??? For shame!!

In all reality, I LOVE this company. I'm not thrilled with what they serve us for lunch, but I know they do an excellent job for all of our clients, and the food that we serve at events is second to none. I have seen such food going around when we have tastings here at the office.

I am also getting ready to start working events-I was trained as a Waiter, but eventually decided to work Pantry because I couldn't afford a tux... :P I am also looking forward to getting my fair share of the "waiter food" when the events end!

Windows, perhaps? Ridgewells? Actually, I agree you - the food is wonderful, the staff great to work with, and the clients all are satisfied. Just wish they treated you guys better! If you ever are at a weekend event at the Lee- Fendall House in Old Town, ask for Karin - chances are I will be there too!

I will most certainly do so! My first events are at the Mellon Auditorium (some NBA player for the Wizards is getting married), Evermay (another wedding, and apparently uber-chic wedding site), Library of Congress, and the NATIONAL ZOO for a picnic!! I'm pretty excited (if you couldn't tell)
