Advance Medical at St. Luke's

My wife went back for her results this morning at St. Luke's, and was informed that she would have to undergo the sputum smear/culture. She has to return next week for 3 consecutive days for the Smear, then wait for 8-10 weeks for the culture results. I hope the smear is negative after the 3rd day. This is why I wanted her to get an advanced medical exam at St. Luke's. Her 2 month culture will be finished by 10 May, and, looking at it realistically, even if she had passed the Medical exam, she would not have her interview until May anyway. I highly recommend that as soon as you receive your NVC case number, you get your medical out of the way.

Is this what they do when they belive there has been exposure to TB? I am concerned about this as well. What made them decide to do that kind of test? Was it something they saw in the ex-rays, due to possible exposure, or was it from listening to her breathing? My fiancee will take her medical ASAP just in case they want to do the same for her or her daughter.

Yes, she does have congestion, and her family doctor had her on medication for that, but she has not talked to the doctor at St. Luke's yet for the explanation of what they saw in her e-ray. After she finishes the 3 day sputum test, on the 4th day she will talk to the doctor, and he/she will go over what they saw, and will let her know the preliminary smear results (either positive or negative). She still has to wait for 2 months for the culture results of her sputum. From my limited experience, I am glad she went for the advance medical instead of waiting until she had her interview date. (which would not have been until May anyway).

Hey! I was on St. Luke's earlier... I must have seen your wife there... I was really afraid about this sputum test, but i was glad when the guard says "second floor, immunization", :D ... Good thinking about the early medical... but does that apply to K-1 applicants? We need our Manila Case Number which we will only learn after NOA2 approval.

yes you need to have the MNL case number and NOA2 to do an advanced medical. How many others had to do the sputnum test from the same group of girls? I think this is a racket....sometimes i think they just randomly pick girls for this and I have heard that a whole group of girls had "spots" in their xrays. I agree with doing an early medical...my wife's "scheduled" medical was 9 days before her interview.

I don't mind the 3 day sputum test, and if the results are NEGATIVE, they should be allowed to proceed instead of waiting for the 2 month culture. A follow-up could be done in the U.S. What about visitors and other non-immigrant visa applicants? I Don't know if they are even required to have a physical exam before going to the U.S. I would hope so. If not, it is really a scam for the immigrant visa applicants. I believe the sputum costs extra.

yeah but even if the smear tests are negative you still have to wait the 8-10 weeks for the culture. It is total BS I think too...I say if the smear tests are negative, then yeah they should be able to continue on....but I'm not a doctor there in St. Lukes and dont know how the culture differs from the smear test...im just glad that my wife was clear.
