Hi everyone,

I am getting all the documents together that i need for the affidavit of support... i was wondering if i need a co-sponssor since i just moved back from Germany last March i was there for a year, i didn't have a job for a year in Germany but still filed my tax returns, came back to the us, and have been working for the past 10 months here in the US so i can sponsor my fiance, and i make over the poverty level, do i need a co-sponsor since my 2010 w-2 only shows like a little more than 6 months worth of pay? i make around 30,000 a year... and if i do need a co-sponsor because of that reason, what forms do we fill out for the co-sponsor?? Also do i need to have my 2010 taxes done before the interview?

If anyone can help me with these questions, i appreciate it!

Thank you!

The most important thing on and I-134 is the "current income" which would be what you make now, not what you made last year. You document current income with pay stubs, employer letters, offer letters etc. Pay stubs are best, IMO. When asked to state your current income, do so. Do not state last year's income. The question is in the present tense.

okay, thank you very much! so should i just include like my w-2 and then like recent pay stubs for the past few months? i didn't do my taxes yet, do you think just the w-2 in the meantime would be fine?

again thank you very much!

Maybe but I would do the taxes and include at least one complete tax return. The distinction I'm making is that if you got a new job paying $2500 a month beginning December 1, 2010, your 2010 income would be $2500 but your "current income" would be $30,000. They are separate issues. Document them both.

I was wondering....I make way above the minimum income level and I'm a gov't employee so when I get pay increases I can document it on an official SF-250 personnel action form. I will provide 6 months of pay stubs. My W-2, and I'm working on 2010 taxes. I even provided a letter that shows my service level and salary on government letter head. My Fiancee wanted me to do another I-134 and I told her its not really needed and that lead to an arguement and now we have hurt feelings on both sides, I'm sure we will be fine after we cool down a day. I'm working a bunch of extra hours to help pay for honeymoon so I'm getting little sleep. I thought it was just more important to provide updated paystubs and 2010 taxes and don"t see where income level will be an issue. Anyone have experience to share on this matter. To me it just seems that they should scrutinize more when I'm close to the minimum level to verify but shouldnt be an issue at all if I'm way above the income level

I don't understand the question. What was her reason for thinking she needed a new I-134? If your year to date income is on your pay stubs, one current one will do. The SF-250 is a nice touch too. Consular officers will be quite familiar with it.

moving thread to:

US Embassy and Consulate Discussion

This is the place to post your experiences or questions related to this last step before moving to the US. Topics relating to I-134's, packets sent from consulate and medical & police certificates should be posted here.

YMMV
