I am wondering which visa is best for a UK citizen who wants to marry a US citizen and start living in the US and working as soon as possible. Is it better to get married in the UK first, another country, or apply for a K-1? I am not sure which visa to choose. The options are open as to when and where we get married, I would just like my partner to be able to live and work in the US as soon as possible.

There are guides at the top of the page that will help you but in short, if working is paramount then the CR-1 is the best option. While it will be more expensive than the K1 (not visa fees, the fact you have to get together and marry first and place ticket fees), and while it also takes a bit longer (what with waiting to marry before filing, and actual processing time) it will give a GC upon entry to your spouse and he can work and travel immediately.

The K1 means quicker processing times (a couple of months), you can file immediately, BUT you have to file AOS after marriage (in the US) and that will take around 3-6 months. It will take 2-4 months to get the work or travel permit after filing AOS. That means the immigrant can't leave or work until they have the EAD (work), AP (travel) or GC.
