hello everyone, i have a friend that wants to get married with a woman in Vietnam. He needs to obtain a single status certificate in order to get married in Vietnam. Can anyone show me how please thank you very much :)

Yes, there is a way: at the US embassy in Vietnam, or any other foreign country where the person is getting married. The US citizen can get such a certificate for a fee of $50: a friend of mine did it in Belgrade, Serbia, so I know it's possible

4. Affidavit of Single Status. The applicant can request this document from the civil registry in

the state in which he resides or complete an affidavit at the U.S. Consulate. This document

must be signed within three months of application for a marriage certificate. The

notarization fee at the U.S. Consulate is $30 USD. If the applicant had a previous marriage,

present an authenticated copy of the divorce decree or death certificate for the previous

spouse(s);

5. A letter by the local vital statistics office certifying that no marriage license or marriage

certificate of the applicant is found within the state where the applicant is residing in. The

search period must be started from the year when the applicant was 18-year-old to present. In

case the applicant was divorced, or a previous spouse is deceased, a certified photocopy of

death certificate must be submitted. (This requirement may vary from province to province).

You get an authenticated single status AKA certificate of no marriage records by contacting your State's Secretary of State. The SecOS will give you a number to contact Vital Records and give you the cost to authenticate the document. Your SecOS will be the one authenticating the document. I've seen a current list of SecOS phone numbers before, you can also email your SecOS and provide your phone number so they can contact you with more information. You're basically trying to find the phone number for Vital Records and how much it costs.

This is an email I got from WA state SoS

You can contact Vital Record in Olympia and order a Single Status, Tell them that you need it Authenticated for Vietnam and they will send directly to my office I will authenticate your document and send it on to you. Please call xxx xxx-xxxx tell them you need a single status for Vietnam, you will be able to pay with a credit card, over the phone, they also take the money for me. When you receive your document it will be complete. This is the official way to do this process.
