Where to start?

Hi everyone,

I have just recently started looking into moving to the States and working there temporarily. Here is my situation:

I am a Canadian, just finishing up my bachelor of arts degree. My partner has applied to schools in the states and is possibly moving there in August (depending on schools he gets into here). He has dual citizenship (American and Canadian).

I am wondering what the best possible way of going about moving there would be... I have looked into the TN visa but I'm not sure if it applies to me or not. Anyone know what the best route to go would be? And where to start after that?

Thanks so much!

To start, check if your degree matches any of the occupations on the lists below.

If it does, have a look online to see if there are any jobs in the area you are thinking of moving to. The process is a lot easier if the prospective employer has some experience with the Tn. If not you will have to be able to explain how it works and convince them of the logistics. If you find a job you are qualified for, you can either apply first and bring up the Tn process when they contact you, or you can call their HR and ask/explain before you apply.

An overview of the Tn requirements is in the link below. The section "Letter of Employment in the U.S." describes what you will need from the employer. If the employer is not familiar with the Tn process, the letter if employment is usually where things get screwed up. Either they omit required information or they put something extra in that USCIS doesnt like.

That's kind of general overview of what to do. It's been a while since I had a Tn so I didn't want to get too specific, but hopefully that gives you an idea of where to start.

Well, it’s amazing. The miracle has been done. Hat’s off. Well done, as we know that “hard work always pays off”, after a long struggle with sincere effort it’s done.
