When I applied for my passport, the status update on the state department website provided a tracking number for the postal package that contained my passport, so I was able to track down my passport and knew exactly when it was delivered to my mailbox.

For me there were three stages for my passport application

1. application has been received and is being processed

2. "We have finished processing your passport, and it has been mailed to you using Priority Mail."-the tracking number (different from application locator number) is included here.

3. application is at the final stage, and you should receive your newly issued passport by xx/xx/xxxx (tracking number disappeared)

Not for me... the status on the website shows it is still in processing, I had to call to verify my passport has shipped out. Took a month smh.

That could be probably due to my last name, and also I ordered both the book, and card.

Received my passport book in the mail today... It looks absolutely awesome guys... In my case I was able to check my status for the first couple days then I couldn't be able to check it at all after that and had to call them up and they said that they has mailed out my passport and It takes 3 days for it to arrive safely in the mail. Yup I am done with the USCIS :)

I'm still in the naturalization process so I haven't applied for a passport yet but I'm curious... did many of you apply for the book AND card? Or did you go with one or the other? I guess it depends what travel you plan on doing, but as far as I can see, on the off chance I drove into Mexico or Canada, wouldn't a passport book be enough? Is there a point to the card for people who plan on flying overseas 99 percent of the time? I imagine it's easier to carry around and all but I wonder if that's a reason to pay an extra $30?

Just wondering! Hope you all get your passports soon! :)

I got my passport Just waiting on my passcard, and documents. Passcard is good to have if your not traveling in air, the card is good for land, and sea travel to the Caribbeans Canada, and Mexico. Also the advantage of having the passcard is if you lose your passport, or passcard vice versa, you have at least one important key to make the process faster to obtain a replacement, Good Luck.

You absolutely must get the card also, and it has nothing to do with travel.

You use it as your sole proof of US citizenship when going to the SSA or DMV or applying for a job. If you lose it . . . no problem, as you have your passport in a safe place. What you want to avoid by all means is that you have to dig that vulnerable piece of paper -- the Certificate of Naturalization -- out of its safe place again and send it away. It is you last resort backup for cases where a fire, an earthqauke, or a tsunami swallowed your house and everything in it. Therefore, it should live separate from the passport book and the passport card. My CoN is in the bank safe, my passport book in a locked Steelcase steel cabinet in my house, and my passport card in my wallet since I've been waiting for over 5 weeks now for my new driver license to arrive in the mail. Once I get this, the passport card goes into a firesafe in my office.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.
