I am really unsure about this medical supplement. My husband had a medical done in Morocco, with the chest x-rays and vaccinations. What are the vaccinations that are suppose to be done here in the United States? And if he has already done them do we have to go to a civil surgeon and get them done again?? Or is it more like a dr. in the US signing off and saying "yup you did them?"

You don't have to have the entire medical done again, you only need to have a vaccine supplement filled out by a civil sureon. You need a copy of the DS-3025 form from the doctor that you got the medical done at for the K1. Once you have that you take it to the civil surgeon here in the States and they fill out the I-693A supplement form and you send it with your AOS packet. That should be all hopefully! Good Luck!

AmeraMouttaki,

Maybe. The DS-3025 may be acceptable to the USCIS if it shows that all vaccinations have either been received or are medically inappropriate. (My wife did not need the Vaccination Supplement, the DS-3025 was good enough.)

Too bad. An RFE at the interview is such a let down. Get those supplements people!!

The DS-3025 should be provided to you by your consulate physician. They should report on it any vaccines they administered directly, and any that you can prove to them by way of records.

It's not the consulate physicians job to certify that those vaccines are adequate for your adjustment of status. Civil surgeons are asked by USCIS to certify to the adequacy of your vaccinations, and that adequacy is based upon your age.

There's a lot of discussion about the I-693A in this community. And a lot of discrepency as well as to what seems to occur at the AOS interview. It's possible (and in fact it should occur) that some posters are being sent away from the interview because their vaccines were inadequate. Perhaps they were unaware of it - they either didn't receive a copy of their DS-3025 or they were unaware of what vaccines to follow up on in the US. I personally wonder (without any supporting evidence I will admit) if some adjudicators simply want the form in the file.

One should never have to subject themselves to additional vaccines to satisfy the requirement - additional vaccinations are not harmful, but they are costly and many people simply don't like needles. A simple titre test can prove whether or not one has been innoculated.

I took my husband to a civil surgeon here in the states, DS-3025 in hand, and for $35 we were able to get the supplement completed. It may have been an unnecessary step but we did it anyway.

At the end of the day it's up to you to decide. I advocate getting the form completed if it's not to difficult or costly. In the case where one doesn't have the DS-3025 in their possession, I think it's particularly wise to have the titre test done and the I-693A in file.

I would suggest that you get the form done before you send in your AOS paperwork. That is one less thing you have to worry about for the actual interview. This is what I did and I have not had any problems at all.

Should one apply for one's civil surgeon vaccinations interview before applying for AOS or is it something that can be done while waiting for the interview?

The I-485 instructions say you 'may' submit the supplement with the application. Some have had RFEs for not sending it and others have not.

OyenJames,

Was the DS-3025 complete? That is, did it show all vaccinations as either given or medically inappropriate?

Often DS-3205 is not complete, since vaccinations are not a requirement for non-immigrant visas. In such case of course the I-693 Vaccination Supplement is going to be required.

True enough, though, it's common for the I-693 Vaccination Supplement to be requested even if DS-3025 is complete.

For our case, we are going to supply the DS-3025 as well as the I-693 Vaccination Supplement just to be on the safe side. Although it's not required, we just don't like playing roulette with our time and energy hoping they don't issue an RFE. Cheers!!!

I would also strongly suggest having the I-693A completed by a civil surgeon as I was also given an RFE at our interview over a month ago for not having it although all my vaccinations had been completed before arriving in the US. It would beat getting to the interview stage after waiting close to 2 years for an interview and receiving an RFE there.

Just wanted to add that at his medical in London, my husband (then fiance) was told he only needed an MMR booster to be alright for a K1 to AOS. However, when we went to have the civil surgeon simply "transfer" one doc to another, we found out that he needed another vaccination for AOS, which meant more money we had to shell out for it, where as his GP in Manchester could have done the vaccination there for free if we'd known.

So yeh, best to see a US Civil Surgeon, just in case.

rebeccajo,

It's not the consulate physicians job to certify that those vaccines are adequate for your adjustment of status. Civil surgeons are asked by USCIS to certify to the adequacy of your vaccinations, and that adequacy is based upon your age.

Weeeelllllll.... Recognize that there's only one list of required vaccinations for immigration, whether the immigration is accomplished by entering the USA as an immigrant - in which case the DS-3025 filled out by the Panel Physician is the vaccination documentation - or the immigration is accomplished by entering the USA as a non-immigrant and adjusting status. And as long as it's current (less than 1 year old) the other aspects of the medical examination performed by a Panel Physician do not have to be repeated or certified by a Civil Surgeon. In other words, Panel Physicians have the same standing as Civil Surgeons for certifying an immigrant's medical eligibility.

Good summary. The confusion and resulting discrepancies arise from the fact that although a K-visa applicant needs a medical exam in anticipation of immigration, like other classes of non-immigrant they do not need to have vaccinations. The vaccination aspect of their medical status can be put off until after entry to the USA. Consequently, it is sometimes assumed that their vaccinations are incomplete unless and until signed off by Civil Surgeon even though it has already been taken care of and certified by a Panel Physician.

If vaccinations are incomplete, or if vaccinations are complete and risk avoidance is the highest concern, have a Civil Surgeon do an I-693 Vaccination Supplement.

If vaccinations are complete and avoidance of spending unnecessary time and money is the highest concern, go with the DS-3025 unless and until told that the I-693 Vaccination Supplement is needed anyway.
