No, they did not. It PASSED without a filibuster but it PASSED with changes demanded by DEMOCRAT Senators from Louisiana and Nebraska. It THEN Should have been reconciled and SENT BACK to the Senate. In the meantime, between the Senate PASSING the bill without filibuster, and the reconciliation, the DEMs lost Kennedy's seat ( :o !!!!) Which WOULD have been enough to support a filibuster. The DEMs THEN found a way around sending it back to the Senate to AVOID a filibuster. A filibuster never occured.

So, rather than "reconcile" and send it back as should have been done, the DEM controlled house simply "agreed" to the Senate version to avoid any RISK of a filibuster. They also KNEW they were about to get their clocks cleaned in the November election and needed to pass SOMETHING fast. They (DEMs) had delayed it as long as they could and packed as much greasy pork as possible into it.

Thank goodness they were too stupid to include a severability clause, eh?

Facts. Irritating, aren't they?

Aren't they? But you have a party that are such phonies, they delay something for nearly two years, then blame it on someone else and the rest of them, even in disagreeing with the revised history, agree with them.

Bottom line...

Mr Bog Dog has incorrectly stated several times in this thread that the Republicans filbustered Obamacare. It never happened. The other lemming Democrats that "agree with him" have also said there was a "threat" of a filibuster and then say that is the same thing.

And you want them to run your healthcare!?

Now they all disappear.

DEMs....kindly stop saying things that are not true. The Healthcare bill was delayed, botched, butchered, and ultimately will be destroyed because of the Democrats and no one else. Republicans were exactly correct to let the Dems have this one ALL TO THEMSELVES. And now they are looking for someone to blame it on.

Just keeping it near the top so Mr Big Dog does not miss the opportunity to admit he was "wrong"

But I will not hold my breath

A "big dog" would have the confidence to say he made it up, or was just misinformed by the party he supports. A little yappy dog would stay on the porch and wimper.

No, they did not.

Yes, they did. The Democrats ended the Republican filibuster in the early morning hours of 21 Dec 2009 clearing the way for passage of the health care reform act on 24 Dec 2009. If there wasn't a Republican filibuster, then there would have been no need to invoke cloture. Read up. You must have missed it.

It is a vote on an amendment not the healthcare bill

It's actually on an amendment to an amendment to the healthcare bill.

And H.R.3590 (Service Members Home Ownership Tax Act of 2009)?

True, without going into further detail one can now speculate the original error was not an error but an intentional misrepresentation of the facts.

Amazing that after the DEMs delayed the bill, they are still trying to find a way to blame SOMETHING on the Repubs. I thought they would be PROUD of this wonderful legislation. With no severability clause.

It's off the Senate Website. H.R.3590 is, in fact, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.

So you are saying that the Healthcare bill was delayed by Republicans with not enough votes to sustain a filibuster. Is that correct? Please state clearly. What date did the filibuster begin and when did it end?

Votes for cloture are routine Senate procedures. They happen every day. It is simply an agrrement to end debate on that topic and go to a vote. It takes 41 votes to keep debate open and stop the bill, or amendment to a bill, from being voted on. When that occurs it is called a "filibuster" . With only 40 votes to keep debate open...THERE WAS NO FILIBUSTER!

when the Dems lost the Kennedy seat due the bumbling ineptness of Obama, the Republicans gained a seat making 41, the magic number. Sunce Senator Scott was filling a vacancy he took the sear immediately and he had promised to vote for a filibuster.

The DEMs then had to find a way to pass the bill without another vote in the Senate.

The method they used (bills do NOT get "passed" in reconciliation) was arguably unconstitutional. No matter. The dummies forget to iclude a severability clause and the whole thing is trashed now anyway.

I will state, correctly, again, THERE WAS NO FILIBUSTER ON THE HEALTH CARE BILL

Hint to the small yappy dog barking at me from the other side of screen door...do you see any other liberal dogs barking about this topic?

No, that's not what I'm saying. I thought I have been very clear with my criticism on the Democrats in this process. They have no-one but themselves to blame for the outcome because they did, as you point out correctly, have a filibuster proof majority through 2009. That does not mean, however, that the Republicans did not filibuster this piece legisilation. They did - and yes, Democratic Senator Nelson helped them do that. That's one Democrat and 40 Republicans. You can't translate that into "the Democrats" - there was only one. And he alone couldn't have delayed the bill - the uniform opposition of the Republicans was what made the math work. So, the Republicans (all of them) and the Democrat (one of them) filibustered the legislation.
