The Republicans have really drawn a line in the sand on this one and Gov. Walker rejecting the unions' concessions demonstrates which side is the one who is playing hardball. If the GOP wants an all out battle with working Americans, they've got it now.

And good too. About time.good.gif

The Socialists in Texas will be doing the same thing soon when the redistricting starts again. They have the last two times fled the state (Last time to New Mexico) it was amusing but they had to return eventually and it still happened. This time there are so few of them that they will not be missed.rofl.gif

This isn't a battle with "working Americans" but with the unions. Since union membership in the private sector is only around 12% and of that number only a small number of those actually want to be in a union I think you will find that it will not be much of a battle. I know the 4 times I was in a union was only because I had to be for the job. I also know that most of those people resented the fact they had to pay union dues to an orginisation that only cared about the money and political power the money bought.

Working Americans, hah! I love the way the unions think they represent anyone that works in America. They only represent themselves.

Which is why they should really ram this bill as best they can. The GOP can try to justify it all they want in the actions of the Pre-11/2010 Democrats, when they would whine about not being heard enough, but history (read: voters) will most likely not favor their cause.

The grapevine says that people in the private sector where unions don't exist that bring up the idea with co-workers end up with a pink-slip. But I do follow the anger you felt over union dues. They're expensive and IMO, union management should be in it for the employees, not self-serving- as is the case in actual for-profits. Welcome to America.

 It's that well paid lawyer's liberal interpretation of what it means to compel someone. Oh boy.... I'm looking forward to hearing about him being laughed out of court over this one.

They can deal with the legal issues when the fugitives are back home in cuffs.

What are you talking about? These Senators are doing the people's business. Even the Weekly Standard can't deny that the people of Wisconsin do not support the measure Hosni Walker and the Republicans are trying to shove down their throats. They instead support the Democratic Senators who are pursuing the only route available to prevent this bill from passing.

They can't prevent the bill from passing. Their job is to show up and vote "no" - that's all they can do.

It's called democracy.

Governor Walker used a very non-democratic political maneuver to bring to a vote something that normally can't be voted on (public employees collective bargaining rights), and he did so full well knowing that this was his intention. He was doing the bidding of the Koch Bros. who found a way to circumvent the only thing that stands in their way politically - unions. Freedom of association is a constitutionally protected right. It's ironic that the Koch Bros' victory with the Supreme Court ruling of Citizens United was based on freedom of association and here they are now desperately trying to snuff out that right for unions to do what SCOTUS has declared a right of corporations.

If money and political power cause you such disdain, why are you going after the little guy? 12% of the population belong to a union and you're upset about their money and political power in this country? You got that backwards, bro.

The Dem Senators need to do their job. If the people do not like it, they can vote for someone else next time.

34% of public workers belong to unions and 100% of public workers get paid for by confiscating money that I earn. Only 7% of private industry is unionized. In private industry the business can do things to imporove the bottom line, including cutting dividends for stock holders who volutarily buy stock. They can also CLOSE the business if union demands make it unprofitable. Government, public officials, have no one to turn to but to confiscate more money. Many government unions have basically guaranteed employment with guaranteed benfits. Teachers especially, and they only work 35 weeks per year.

As the favorite Democrat, FDR said, government workers should not be allowed unions. Period.

Public employees in Texas have been stripped of their collective bargaining rights.

Do you see them starving or out on the street? Are they worse off in any way than public employees in any other state?

Don't be silly - we're only talking about public unions and the right to collectively bargain against you and me, the taxpayer.
