Hi. I received an email notification that my application (i-485) was sent to California Service Center. I'm in north dakota. What do you think is going on there?

Will they interview me or something. I already did my biometrics in south dakota. I'm worried because I think its back to zero again and I've been waiting since forever (okay...about 3 months).

Has anyone here passed this stage? What happened?

Yes, I didn't have an interview got my card approved and mailed to me.

It is quite common to be sent to CSC for the AOS applications. It is a 50/50 chance that they will not interview you, they still have the option to kick the case back to your local center for you to have an interview.

All you do now is sit back and wait, maybe find a new hobby to do or if you have EAD to find a part time/full time job or what not until they have a decision made.

Your I-129f was approved in 5 days from your NOA1 date.

Your interview took 67 days from your I-129F NOA1 date.

AOS was approved in 2 months and 8 days without interview.

ROC was approved in 3 months and 2 days without interview.

Thanks! I'm not worried now! :) Well regarding the EAD. I dont have it yet which is frustrating because there's this job that I like and there might not be any other job like it. tsk tsk. but I'm keeping the faith.. Thanks very much!

Hope they get the EAD to you soon so you can snap up that job! I know finding them is hard in the states, specially the ones you really want. Took me a year to get mine!

I also did my biometrics and now received a letter saying my file was transfered to Cali also.....some people say that it's because Cali is faster and deals more with the Adjustment of Status stuff....and some also said that it's good 'cause it might mean we don't need an interview afterall.....not sure but I am in the same boat as you! Good luck!

My case was also transferred to CSC on the 28th, a week ago. Yesterday evening I checked my case online and instead of saying "On February 28th we transferred..." it now says "The I485 APPLICATION TO REGISTER PERMANENT RESIDENCE OR TO ADJUST STATUS was transferred and is now being processed at a USCIS office. You will be notified by mail when a decision is made, or if the office needs something from you."

I know that change was made yesterday because I had checked it earlier in the day and that notice wasn't there. I assume this means that it's now gone to my local office and that an interview is now more likely (as well as the fact that the process may take longer)? Can anyone confirm that that's what happened.

If so, why is it that when the case is transferred to CSC you get an NOA but not when they kick it back to USCIS?

I think what happens (I'm no expert so correct me if I'm wrong!), is that some cases get transfered to the California Service Center, are processed and approved without interviews. Some are transfered, then transfered back for some reason, are processed and you might have an interview or not. And then some cases are not transfered and you get an interview....

I know a member who had her case transfered to CSC, then transfered back to her local office, and she received an e-mail last week saying her green card was approved. She didn't have an interview.

Stay patient!

Thank you for the info. If I could follow up, I know each case will be treated individually but do you know if the person in question wound up waiting for what seemed to be a longer time for the approval after the case was sent back to her local office?

The email you got about your case being transfered to "a USCIS office" actually means that it arrived and was handled at CSC. I got that email too...and most of us who got their files transfered to CSC. The first notice about transfer is when your file is shipped to CSC, the second notice is when it arrives (even if the terminology is confusing). There's still a big chance that your case is approved at CSC without interview. It took CSC 5 weeks to approve mine. Good luck!

Thank you very much for the clarification, HappyRs. It seems sometimes that USCIS and the the paperwork involved in all the various applications along the Visa/AOS path can be purposely confusing and unclear. Thank God for the people on websites such as this who take the time to share their experiences. I shudder at how much more difficult this process must have been 15+ years ago where communities like this didn't exist.

So true! Glad someone clarified all this for you! And just so you know, the person whose case was approved took a little longer because they lost her medical forms. But nothing out of timelines.
