Hi everyone

Sorry if this is posted in the wrong place. I am getting married to my beautiful fiancee in the States very soon, but have no intention to stay in America - she will be coming to the UK to live with me in July. My question is around proving I have no intent to stay. I will be taking:

-> Return ticket

-> Payslip (to prove I have a job plus proof of UK address)

-> Phone bill (additional proof of UK address)

-> Confirmation of a medical appointment due to take place in the UK after I come home from the states

Will this be enough, or will I need to bring more information?

Thanks ever so much,

Rob

Are you filing (or have you already filed) for a K-1 to get US citizenship?

Not to be a meanie, but the K-1 doesn't result in citizenship, but rather being a legal permanent resident.

Edit: Actually, K-1 doesn't result in anything, but after marriage and application for AOS (and another thousand bucks), result is legal permanent resident :)

How about a letter from your employer stating when they expect you to return to work and a copy of your lease or proof of ownership of the residence.

I have already asked my employer for one but they have refused to do it, stating that my payslip should be enough.

Are you filing (or have you already filed) for a K-1 to get US citizenship?

Or are you coming over as a tourist, planning to marry, then returning home?

The difference between the two is critical.

I am planning to marry then go home. It is not my intention to stay in the US.

Congratulations! :) This link will be helpful. Visitation FAQ's. It specifies K-1 beneficiaries but is applicable to all. Good luck.

Moving thread from K-1 Process to the Tourist Visa forum.

Thanks ever so much! I have taken a look, very useful.

Your employeer should be able to provie you a letter of employment, just the payslip does not mean you are employeed - that could be your last payslip.

So a letter of employment from employeer which states you are on their payroll and pref if they can put it on their letter head - that works best.

Tell your employeer just payslips would not be accepted by govt official and you need a letter.

I came over with nothing but my word, I left for Dublin which offers customs before leaving the uk, and was honest about my intentions both times " Im going to spend the summer with my boyfriend" and then "Im going to spend Thanksgiving with my fiancee's family", and it was fine! Most people I know who come over for a short trip, they ask for your return ticket, what the purpose of your visit is and sometimes, if its a long trip, over a month or so,how you plan on supporting yourself as you cant work. One friend was asked for proof of planning to return, and her latest payslip was accepted. If your being honest, you should be fine! If you are planning anything other than a visit, I wouldnt attempt to lie to them, they are trained to spot nervousness and things that dont make sense. Dont stress, and have fun. Best of luck with your marriage.
