To a "person of color" who has been, and still is, discriminated against, getting profiled not the same as a "white" person getting profiled. To the "person of color", getting selected as fitting a profile in part because of race is often assumed to be entirely because of race. Or worse yet, it is assumed to be simply an excuse by the authority to harrass someone solely because of their race (sometimes the assumption is in fact correct). To ignore this is to ignore history and reality.

So if I were to go to Mexico for 3 months, would I not be a minority then? And no...I would not go to some place like Cabo....if I'm going to visit a different country, I want to experience the culture of that country, not an Americanized version.

I'm not pulling the "we're the minority group now" thing. I just honestly don't see this sort of thing around here. Well, with the exception of Plainfield, where I work. The cops there are good ole boys who watch porn on the laptops in their cruisers and pull over anyone not white. I've never heard of any problems here in my town though. I could easily see us electing a Mexican mayor, or a black one for that matter.

I guess it's just hard for me to see it from the "other side".

easy, because they are white americans that will never be profiled. As someone stated in the poll, people that are for is because they've never been profiled, they don't know what it feels. As someone who has been profiled before for stupid reason, I'm against it. Unfortunately the non-minorities think its fair, but they've never been in a minority shoes.. and I don't think they intend to be simpathetic with them

That's an excellent point, and very valid actually. I have experienced being a minority-in elementary school I was one of 10 "white" kids in the entire school. I grew up on the receiving end of racism, so don't tell me I don't know what I'm talking about. The county where I've spent my entire life-Prince George's county-has a "minority majority" meaning people like me-Ms. Cracker-are the minority. In fact, if I had decided to go to Bowie State University before heading off to college (Bowie is where I grew up) I would have received a minority scholarship. Going to West Virginia for college was an incredible culture shock to me. I was a minority in Mexico too. Profiled for being American and targeted by every beggar on the street, and a few police officers.

Ok, in the interest of International relations, I'll let you have that "pwned". Why? because it doesn't bother me at all. If Indianapolis were to become a mostly Mexican city, if the mayor of Indy, the Governor of Indiana, and our Reps in Congress were Mexicans (or Tejanos), it wouldn't bother me. Wouldn't bother me if they were black, either. Race/Nationality really isn't an issue with me. Attitudes and actions are.

It's not about race...it's about your appearance.....Cop pulls over a brand new mercedes with a guy who looks like he just stepped out of a dumpster...I'd hazzard a guess that he'd be asked 'where'd you get the car from' regardless what color he is.

But since you want to talk racism...I don't think Guiliani said NYC would be rebuilt as a 'vanilla' city...or even a 'spumoni' one

Sure, but it's not the same thing when in the grand scheme of things you are the majority, enjoy a higher standard of living than other groups, etc. To understand, you have to be able to look at the big picture. White people are still more powerful in this country.

Didn't say it couldn't exist. It's not the situation in the whole country. And that county still sees the same TV shows, movies, etc. as everyone else and is still part of the larger culture and subject to the same stereotypes and discrimination as anyone else in the country.

Just because there are fewer white people in an area does not mean they have experienced what it's like to be, say, black in a predominantly white area.
