Almost four in ten, 39%, advocate that Muslims here should carry special I.D.

And before you say it, yes I know that not all muslims are arabs and vice versa, but I think you get my drift.

How about special arm bands that they have to be wearing at all times? (wink wink)

Profiling, especially to this extent where we are talking about really quite large numbers of people (from diverse countries) is the first step to branding people (Star of David armbands anyone?), which is obviously very odious.

There are many Americans who believe that Arabs in this country should have to carry special ID cards, right?

doubtful. try again.

22% does not make "many Americans " percentage wise

ummm, ok. How about 39%?

ETA: Many is not the same as most. Do you care to comment on the issue or just on deciding how many people qualify as many?

my bad got the wrong percentage. it is 39%

don't know of any on my stree that are in that though. i'd be interested in knowing what cities/states they surveyed for those results.

While Americans tend to disagree with the notion that Muslims living in the United States are sympathetic to al-Qaeda, a significant 34% believe they do back al-Qaeda. And fewer than half -- 49% -- believe U.S. Muslims are loyal to the United States.

although the percentages above don't surprise me

Wow that is some very large pic.....

Big pic, for a small angry man

Yes it is, I didn't resize the thing - Ewok will probably take it down, as it may cause some technical 'performance' issues ;)

I think this thread was already suffering from technical "performance" issues pre-mega piccie.

One of the folks arrested as part of the foiled jet bombing plot the other week was actually a caucasian male, as was the so called 'shoe bomber'. Would racial profiling have 'detected' these people?

Maybe, if the profile included Arabs and UK citizens. :P

It surprises me that for having such a diverse crowd here on VJ, the percentage of votes "for" is higher here than the national.

easy, because they are white americans that will never be profiled. As someone stated in the poll, people that are for is because they've never been profiled, they don't know what it feels. As someone who has been profiled before for stupid reason, I'm against it. Unfortunately the non-minorities think its fair, but they've never been in a minority shoes.. and I don't think they intend to be simpathetic with them

Yep....exactly right.
