New poll: Strong support for public sector union bargaining rights (yet another poll shows the obvious)

Americans strongly oppose efforts to strip unionized government workers of their rights to collectively bargain ... the latest Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll shows.

Eliminating collective bargaining rights for public-sector workers over health care, pensions or other benefits would be either “mostly unacceptable” or “totally unacceptable,” 62% of those surveyed said. Only 33% support such limits.

...

Similarly, 77% of the 1,000 adults interviewed for the poll think unionized state and municipal employees should have the same rights as those union members who work for private companies.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

New poll: Public sides with Wisconsin governor over union

A new national poll just released by pollster Scott Rasmussen shows that 48 percent of those surveyed support Wisconsin Republican Gov. Scott Walker in his showdown with the state's public-employee unions, while 38 percent support the union. Broken down by party, Rasmussen found that 68 percent of Democrats support the unions, while 68 percent of Republicans support Walker. Among the politically-critical independents, 56 percent support the governor. And in a showdown in which teachers have abandoned the classroom to protest against Walker's budget bill, 38 percent said they believe that teachers, along with firefighters and police, should have the right to strike, while 49 percent said those public employees should not have the right to strike.

A great example of how wording can change poll results. The Ras poll frames the question as a conflict between Walker and state employees while the WSJ poll frames it as a yay or nay wrt collective bargaining.

Will the GOP get the hint and back off? Not likely, they aren't beholden to voters, just the Crotch Brothers.

The GOP is a bunch of anti American douche bags imo. Not that I'm that high atm on the Democrats either. It's tough to say who's worse...the GOP that doesn't have a problem ripping this country off or the Dems who don't have a problem running this country into the ground with their ultra liberal policy's.

This country needs a third party ("middle of the road party") in the worst way. A party that's not so far right, yet not so far left.

normally when people are held hostage, it's called crminal. When left-wing radical union members do it, it's called a 'right.'

That sounds great but would be very difficult to actually put together. Obviously you'd need a set of policy stands and there is no single set of stands that adequately represents the middle. You'd, out of necessity, have to reach into the extremes here and there just to cobble together a coalition large enough to be competitive; and when you do that, you end up looking just like the Democratic or Republican parties.

IMO we'd be much better off with a decentralized form of government where each state (or groups of states, determined by the states) self-governs to a much larger extent than today.

You could have a party that is fiscally conservative and liberal on social issues. And center on foreign policy issues.

India, gun buyback and steamroll.

It is very difficult to be liberal on social issues and still be fiscally conservative. Most liberal social issues pretty much require the spending of taxpayer money. This is the very crux of the disagreement between the two main political parties in the U.S.

New poll? Rather old news, buddy. I added the date of the article for clarity. You need to keep up to date on these things: Rasmussen Polls Wisconsin: 52% Support Democrats, 44% Support Walker (3:15 PM, Mar 3, 2011)

Hosni Walker's support is shrinking. ;)

So what? Do we rule by polls now? These people were elected by the state. If the people don't like the way they are doing their job then the next election is in 2012. Running away to avoid a vote is the cowards way out.
