Hi everyone, my fiance and I sent the I-129F in mid-February because we read that it was taking around 5 months to get the NOA2. I am currently in Mexico doing social service in order to get my MD degree late July... After looking at some timelines, we started freaking out since we might get approved before July... The problem is I am not able to go to an interview before July because of the social service..

My question is, once you get the NOA2 for how long can you delay the interview???

Thanks a lot! :D

I would not worry too much. Currently the ones getting their NOA2 early is a bit of an anomaly but for the most part, the average processing time is still 5 months. If you happen to be one of the lucky few, you'll be able to delay it until after July very easily. Once you receive your NOA2 hardcopy, it is valid for 4 months. From looking at prior cases (and don't take my word at this), as long as you get your paperwork in before that date, they'll extend the validity date as needed. This will allow you to push your interview off.

K1 Visa Timeline

01-27-2011: NOA1!

02-22-2011: NOA2!

03-14-2011: Packet 3 Filled Out. Delayed Interview until closer to POE, August.

08-09-2011: Interview at 10am!

08-19-2011: POE

08-21-2011: Married

AOS

08-25-2011: Sent AOS Packet with EAD & AP

08-29-2011: NOA1 for AOS, EAD and AP

09-29-2011: Biometrics Appointment

Dont worry, 5 months you might get NOA2 but who cares, it will be automatically sent to NVC (1 week), then NVC has to process it (5 days) then mail it to Consulate in Juarez (2-3 days)... Then CDJ takes at least a month before they send you an open appt letter. You have plenty of time, when you do get your NOA2 look at it carefully, it tells you how long it is valid for but basically youll prob have interview in Sept. :) Look at the timelines of other people that recently had interview. Hope this helped

This is a "funny" post in the sense that most petitioners would REALLY like their petitions approved before the 5 months processing estimate. Would you really not have the opportunity to take 2-3 days off of your social service to be able to make it to the interview? Again, most of us would make it to the interview even if it meant making it on crutches, wheelchair, and IV drip!...

August 23, 2010 - I-129 F package sent via USPS priority mail with delivery confirmation.

August 30, 2010 - Per Department of Homeland Security (DHS) e-mail, petition received and routed to California Service Center for processing. Check cashed. I-797C Notice of Action by mail (NOA 1) - Received date 08/25/2010. Notice date 08/27/2010.

After 150 days of imposed anxious patience...

January 24, 2011 - Per USCIS website, petition approved and notice mailed.

January 31, 2011 - Approval receipt notice (NOA 2) received by mail. Called NVC, given Santo Domingo case number, and informed that petition was sent same day to consulate.

Called Visa Specialist at the Department of State every day for a case update. Informed of interview date on February, 16 2011. Informed that packet was mailed to fiance on February, 15 2011.

February 21, 2011 - Fiance has not yet received packet. Called 1-877-804-5402 (Visa Information Center of the United States Embassy) to request a duplicate packet in person pick-up at the US consulate in Santo Domingo. Packet can be picked-up by fiance on 02/28.

March 1, 2011 - Medical exam completed at Consultorios de Visa in Santo Domingo.

March 9, 2011 at 6 AM - Interview, approved!

March 18, 2011 - POE together. JFK and O'Hare airports. Legal wedding: May 16, 2011.

Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you have imagined.
