You are a citizen of belgium right? You dont even need a Visa to come to the U.S.A as Begium is one of the 27 countries that participates in the V.W.P. with us (Visa waiver program). You can just get on a plane and go to texas.

Dangerous to listen to this kind of advice. While it's true that Belgium is a participant of the WVP, it is NOT true that he can just enter the USA when he's going through the K-1 visa process. He needs to clearly establish that he will return on this temporary visit. That is why we've suggested he obtain the police report. More than anything else, I believe the border agent will take into account a police report the most. Even a fax letter from a hospital can easily be faked, but a police report is much harder to fake--doable of course, but much harder than a faxed note from a supposed hospital.

At any rate, you don't just visit the US while under going a K-1 visa process. You better have damn good reason why you need to be in the US and better have documented proof why it's an important reason to be in the US temporarily and have proof you're going back to your country of origin to wait it out during the K-1 process.

Point of Clarification required here:

If you can offer significant ties to your home country: a letter from your employer stating your position, time on the job and expected return date; a return airline ticket; evidence of a mortgage or lease; and other related information, you will not have issues with immigration under K-1.

What kind of crack are you smoking? Many of us here have had our fiance(e)s from the UK and the EU visit us while the K1 was in process. They usually only ask why you're visiting, and if you have any evidence that you'll return to your home country. Sian came here in late June. She told the officer that she was here to visit her fiance, and that there was a K1 application in process. The officer looked at her letter from her employer, and told her to have a nice visit.

This happens a LOT. I haven't read of many people from the UK or EU being turned away. Yes, I'm sure it happens, but not at all frequently. Where the hell do you get the "you don't just visit the US while under going a K-1 visa process." thing?

Lady, people aren't chocolates. Do you know what they are mostly? Bastards. ####### coated bastards with ####### filling. But I don't find them half as annoying as I find naive bobble-headed optimists who walk around vomiting sunshine.

There are certain people on here that are always negative or have doubt in people's postings.

I would believe this story based on I had something tragic happen to a very good friend of mine and if I remember correctly it was Houston too. Her tragic story didn't make the news either and it involved a prominent hotel. I was searching high and low for the story on the internet and nothing was posted. Not every crime in a major city will make the news, there wouldn't be enough time to report them all.

Back to original post, I am so sorry about your situation and will keep you and your fiancee in my prayers. (F)

Yeah, I used to work at several hotels in las vegas. You wouldnt believe how often people get killed/commit suicide/or just die in those hotel rooms (something to think about next time you are in vegas) The hotels are very good at keeping it hush hush, and just the amount of times i found out about things like that happening only made me realize how many times i must have NOT found out. Im sure they keep it hush hush because who wants to stay in a place where someone died?

Praise God you were able to make it there. I'm so sorry to hear that the news about her dad is so grim. I'll keep praying.

When you get home, would you let us know what documents you ended up getting ahold of and presenting at the border? That way, if anything similar should happen in the future, we can advise people that much better.

For now, though, just do what you're doin'. Be a support to your fiancé and her family. They're very fortunate that you're there to support them at such a difficult time.

January 2004: Met Laurent at the Bibliothèque nationale in Paris

February 2004: We became an actual couple

January 29th, 2006: I left France to return to the United States--AWFUL to say goodbye!

June 2006: Finally convinced Laurent that a K-1 visa would be more time-effective than trying to get an H-1

August 1st, 2006: The K-1 petition is finally in the mail and on its way to Nebraska...WooHoooo!! And yes, I remembered to attach the check! :-)

August 3rd, 2006: USPS online tracking shows that my petition (sent certified) was received at the NSC at 5:05am

August 14th, 2006: NOA1 received USPS!! (I-129F recv'd at CSC: 8/4; NOA date: 8/10; last touched: 8/11)

October 2nd, 2006: I MISTAKENLY thought we had an approval...False alarm...Back to waiting...

October 3rd, 2006: TOUCHED!!

October 4th, 2006: REALLY AND TRULY APPROVED!!! Email notification lists 10/3 as the NOA2 date.

Later that same day: TOUCHED...AGAIN! Hope that means I'm in a cozy box and moving to NVC this week...

October 10th, 2006: Received official NOA2 via snail mail.

October 19th, 2006: Case received at NVC!! AWESOME!!

October 20th, 2006: Case forwarded to Paris!! DHL says two shipments were headed that way. Must be in there somewhere...

October 27th, 2006: Received official receipt letter from NVC via USPS.

I am so glad that OP is in Houston. This is just where he needs to be.

Concerning potential immigration complications with the K1, he benefits, informally, from the fact that he is a EU citizen. OP may want a phone or email consultation with am immigration attorney, especially if the stay becomes a bit prolonged. But don't worry about this for awhile.

For now, Alexander, follow your good intuition and support your family as best you can.
