Why is it that there is no mention of this in any of the Houston news services? I would think it would be a major story, especially since there have been a series of carjackings lately and they are making the news.

You have gotten lots of good advice from everyone so relax and concentrate on the problem at hand. You want to come and provide comfort and support for your fiancee and her family. You will need a visitor visa from the U.S. embassy, so gather all documentation you can about the situation and head to the embassy. They will advise you of whether you can receive a visitor visa for a short visit. But above all, remain calm and try to assist your fiancee with support in this dire situation. Right now she needs to be at the hospital to await the outcome of her father's surgery. Prayer is probably the best you can do for her father. If you rush off to Houston, she might not even have the time to pick you up at the airport. So weigh everything carefully.

Clara's dad has been shot, at 2'30am houston time, in front of his business. They were trying to steal his car and they shot him. Clara called me in a panick ... her dad is in a really bad situation. Hes lost sense of his chest to his toe, and lost a lot of blood. He got shot 5 times, and at least one of it in the neck. Now its 3 or 4 hours later and they still didnt help him because they wait for a specialist!

I want to be there for her, and take the first plane i can. My dad says its not smart because I can risk losing my job over it. But it seems immoral not to go there, she is my first priority.

I want your input.

My second concern is will i be allowed in the country because of my K-1 ? Please help me what can I do or improvise so that i will pass customs? I can't ask proof from my employer because he won't like it that i go.

Can i just tell them my future father in law got shot and will they let me in?

Please I need help. I got a friend who wants to give me the plane ticket and he suggest I leave tommorow morning already, so things will go fast.

I know that it's very difficult but you HAVE TO try to stay calm for your fiancee in Texas. Remember, she has a lot on her mind at the moment, try to assure her that with medical advances her father/your future father-in-law will be fine.

You sound like you have a good friend there, the one that's giving you the plane ticket. If he's willing have him try to get the letter from the Houston police department, the letter from the hospital, and whatever else may be needed. At the moment he's thinking more clearly than you are, I too would not be able to think clearly if this were to happen to my fiancee's father. I'll be praying for your future father-in-law and for a safe trip for you and also for a speedy visa for the both of you.

But please, get your good friend involved, he should be able to get you what you need.

Thanks and God Bless!

Keith & Xiang

Some good advice in here, Alex.

Take any immigration paperwork you have, any NOA's to prove that you know that this is just a visit because you have a visa processing. Your last payslip, if it's very recent, may serve as proof of employment in a pinch. Lease, mortgage statement... all the other stuff that has been suggested. A fax of confirmation from the hospital would help, I'm sure. Good luck, and god speed.

John - if it's BS, that's Alex's business. I'm willing to take the chance that it's not and provide information anyway; better to give something unnecessary than not give someone what they need when they need it most, IMHO.

John, I think what Uling meant to write was to please be careful as to what you write in this thread (Off the chain = Please don't write another message in reference to not finding anything in the news). That's the polite way of saying what I think Uling meant to say, can't say for sure though because I'm not Uling.

Alexander, mine and Xiang's heart and prayers go out to you and your family. If you do travel to Houston please have a safe flight, if you are not alloted the opportunity to travel to Houston, please comfort your fiancee the best that you can from where you are. Always assure her that everything will be all right, keep the phone line open, always, always be there for each other!!!!!

Our deepest prayers and may God look after your father-in-law and heal his wounds,

Keith & Xiang

I don't see anything wrong with saying it wasn't in the news. Someone else here read into it saying it was BS. I find it curious.

As I said before, in my opinion it's better to provide "just in case it's true" support than to deny help to someone who does need it - no matter how implausible their situation may sound to us.

i'm with john as well ... i've done a bit of searching and can only find a drug deal shooting and someone shot in their home during a burglary. both of those shootings resulted in deaths ... but there was one where someone open fired on two people in a car ...

*shrugs* guess we just have to wait until alex comes back!

No mention in the news because luckily there is as of yet no death in the case. This is Houston- a shooting isn't going to make the news.

Houston is riddled with high crime rate and car jackings go on all the day and are typically unnoticed, even when somone is shot. With that said, it's likely that an event such as this didn't make the news.
