Grand Father Gravely Ill

Afternoon VJer's

I have a question as some of you know my 88 year old grand father, who is basically like a father to me and raised me had a stroke last week and is not doing well at all. He was released from the Hospital a few days ago and is now on Hospice care. :( My family had all flown down to Florida to be by his side, because anyday could be his last. It killed me I couldn't go down and he didn't want me to because he wanted me to be up in MTL to support my wife at her interview. So while we are happy and excited for it, under these conditions its bitter sweet. I got my mother to send all of my Grand Fathers medical notes, as well as discharge letter, and Hospice care to me. I plan to present that to the interviewer and plead my wife be granted her visa immediately so we can join our family in Florida to see my Grand Father before he passes. I hope to really emphasize the fact he did not get to attend our wedding because of his health and has never met my wife Shannon before. Which is HUGE to us because he help my mom raise me as a Kid. So he is like a father to me.

Do you guys think the Discharge letters from his recent stint in the Hospital, as well as his medical condition with his heart (Extreme Hyper Tension), notes from the physician, as well as his Hospice care agreement, which are all dated for this month will be enough evidence for the Embassy about the urgency of my Grand Fathers health, and the need for Shannon to get her Visa as soon as possible so we can join our family in Florida to basically say our goodbyes.?

Any help or suggestion will be greatly appreciated seeing our interview is in 3 days.

Thanks So much in advance you have all been a great crutch through this entire immigration process.

I would honestly hope that they would give you the visa upfront. I couldn't see why they would even bat an eyelash at saying "YES" to giving it to you. I'm so very sorry for all that has happened. My grandfather had a stroke in December and sadly passed in Jan. I do hope that you get the chance to see him that or that he gets better in some degree.

I'm sorry I can't provide much in the way of concrete advice. All I can say is I hope they do. Hugs and good thoughts to you both in this time.

I would possibly email the consulate and ask them if it will be at all possible. I'd even try calling although from advice on here you probably won't get through. It doesn't hurt however to at least ask the consulate and tell them about your story and what you'd be providing in terms of evidence for a quick visa release. This will at least let you know one way or the other instead of painstakingly having to wait 3 more days. At least you'd have your answers and can focus your attention on your grandfather and this process.

Just my 2 cents and I do NOT mean to be rude! BUT if it were my Wife (the USA citizen) grandfather was ill--I would more than understand the reason her going to see her grandfather and me going to the interview alone, As the interview is like 10 minutes long! And at the interview if they ask why you are not there, it is a very valid reason, and one truly does not need a reason why the USA citizen is not there! yes they did ask me why my spouse was not there--and I stated she was at work!

On the other hand if you goto the interview and try to get the visa issued the same day or next, its a ####### shoot!! No 1 here on VJ can say they will or will not!! We stated awhile back that you should attempt emailing them, and yes, who knows if one would get a response?? Bring the evidence with you, it may or may not help!! Does it make sense to issue you the visa same day or next if you have the evidence??? Sure it does, can they do it?? Sure they can. But as we all know Immigration does NOT always go the way we would like it too. Best of luck

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

First of all - I am so sorry for this painful event happening for you, I really hope your grandfather makes a recovery.

Secondly, I remember reading online here about another member (CanadianRedneck) asking the interviewer about getting his visa back the next day. Although he did NOT have a reason such as yours, I DO know that the interviewer got VERY irate that he asked and told him in no uncertain terms that the consulate no longer did that and not to ask (or something along those lines).

In my opinion, I'd email the consulate (but don't hold your breath on getting a timely response) and bring EVERY shred of evidence along to show. Maybe you'll find a compassionate CO that will be willing to listen and approve your request. Good luck and God bless your grandfather.

Just to let you know I have removed the duplicate thread for your question from the CR-1 forum. I can leave this version here or move it to the US Embassy and Consulate Discussion forum as the appropriate 'immigration' forum for this topic, although I think you will get as good advice in this forum as elsewhere.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

There recently have been 1 or 2 that got the visa same day or next, and I dont think their reason was as "valid" as yours. I think they just wanted to travel back with their USA spouse. Again, your not going to get a concrete answer on VJ! If it were I--and beside my answer of wife going alone,lol--I would

1)contact my congress person and tell them ur story and maybe they could contact the Mtl consulate and pull some weight for ya!

2) AND email the consulate. I believe i posted a link to ur last post about how a certain VJ member got hold of 1 of the supervisors!

best of luck

Hey everyone thanks for the replies thus far. I have emailed the consulate 2 weeks ago right after the Stroke happen and got no reply. I called and get no call back. I was really upset about that. I hope to mention that to the embassy that I did send an email 2 weeks prior to my interview at least asking for a sooner interview.

The reason I am going with my wife is because shes really nervous as am I. I understand the interview isn't a big deal, but I just want to be there to support her and we are really hoping that we get the visa so we can immediately fly out to Florida. Its such a crazy situation, id be devastated if something happens to my Pops before I could see him and he meet my wife.

ugh I hate this. Interviews in 48 hours so, hopefully the evidence I bring, as well as the fact 2 weeks prior to the interview I sent an email with no response will be enough.

I'd do both, email them again today with URGENT in the title, and bring all the evidence tomorrow. I'm very sorry to hear about your grandfather, and I have my fingers crossed that they get you guys the visa ASAP so you can see him.
