We received an rfe on our cr1 the other day as i feared we might. We were unable to provide evidence of my husband's second marriage and divorce from the state of Alaska. I am his 4th wife. Alaska were able to give us a letter comfirming that they had searched their records and that they were unable to find a trace of either event dating back some 20 years. it was not enough for uscis so we don't know what to do, our lawyer is suggesting either a sworn statement from my usc husband about the existence and validity of the previous marriage and divorce or - worse case scenario - to get a lawyer in alaska to file divorce again. we have searched so many public records and talked to alaska many times for advice but no-one can suggest anything about finding these documents.

Does anyone have any other ideas?

hope there is someone who might be able to suggest something - apart from give up.

The clerk of the court office where the divorce was granted ought to be able to supply the needed info. Have you folks inquired directly with the court that granted the divorce?

we have where the marriage and divorce took place. no luck

If the actual court cannot find a record is there an attorney involved with that divorce that could be contacted? They would have something in their files. How about the former spouse?

they did not part on good terms so contact would be better through a lawyer. i don't know about contacting the old attorney - its a thought if he can remember who it was!

Either one would likley have a copy of the divorce decree. Best of luck in the search.
