Ukraine feminists protest ‘Win a Wife’ competition (AFP)

1 March 2011, KIEV — Ukrainian feminist activists held a protest in Kiev on Tuesday to express outrage at the forthcoming visit of the winner of a national radio competition in New Zealand to “Win a Wife”.

Activists from the Femen group, which uses stripping as a shock tactic, braved wintry temperatures in central Kiev, holding banners with slogans such as “Ukraine is not a brothel”.

New Zealand’s male-oriented The Rock FM radio station ran a competition called “Win a Wife,” offering a 12-night trip to Ukraine organised by a bride agency.

The station announced the winner as a winemaker named Greg, who is due to fly into Ukraine’s gritty coal mining town of Donetsk on March 23, before travelling to the industrial town of Zaporizhia.

Femen’s members wear little but flower garlands for frequent protests against Ukraine’s sex industry and targeting of Ukrainian women by international agencies that organise sex tours.

“Femen warns the ‘lucky’ winner of the New Zealand competition that he can expect an unhappy ending in Ukraine,” activist Olexandra Shevchenko said in a statement on the movement’s blog.

“Ukraine is not a brothel and Ukrainian women are not prostitutes.

What a great idea for a promotion. As for getting a wife, he probably doesn't have a clue what is really involved but it's still a great way of promoting your web site and making men aware of their possibilities. I have never understood this. Like your naked body is going to make me think more highly of women.

Everyone is missing the point.

Would ANYONE even consider such a thing in the USA? NO! Because the damn feminists have the USA by the b@lls and have spoiled all the fun. It might "offend" someone that is NOT a white, anglo saxon, middle aged male with a good job.

In Ukraine they DO this. Yes, a few phony feminists (who are also out for publicity) will take off their shirts and shake their breasts in protest (reason enough to do a "win a wife" contest)

THAT is the difference in the USA and UA.

They still have girls daniocing in front of the Grand Openings of stores geared to men (sports, electronics, car dealers, etc) wearing nearly nothing. Try to imagine rounding a downtown corner here and find two 19 year old hotties dancing in front of the new store in thongs and "eyepatch" tops...and heels of course

Kiev, on a warm Saturday night, is just something you have to experience before you die.

BUT there are much better ways to get a Ukrainian wife. Stupid idea if that is what you want

Has anyone ever seen shots of these girls protesting? I was at work yesterday and googled Femen.....and weeeeeeooooooowwww!!! I sure hope they're protesting around March 25 when I'll be in Kiev I may help them with their signs or errr patches.. Yes, right....Women Power... Just ummm keep jumping when you scream that...it has a better effect on the observers..

Really, you gotta go to Kiev in July or August. June is OK too. Just so it is warm. Go downtown on Saturday night. Awesome place. Lots of fun being had!

I am more concerned about the one that is fat. What is happening? Looks like they just came out of one of the clubs.

You know that these girls are paid to do this, right? They have no clue what it is to be a "feminist" And then they say that "Ukraine women are not prostitutes" but they PAY them to expose their breasts and hold signs in English they cannot read. (they do not even know what the letters are)
