Hi there,

My husband and I are waiting on my PCC to come in so we can send in my petition to NVC and I have a couple questions regarding the Medical Exam. First off, how long is the exam good for? Ive heard 6 months, Ive heard a year. My question is because once our DS-230 IV is mailed in, barring a dreaded RFE.. we should be looking forward to a case complete and interview date.. Well Ive heard the Montreal Consulate is sloooooow and it could still take 5-7 months to get an interview, so I am worried that if I was to book a medical exam too early that it would not be valid come the interview date. Thus the 6 months or 12 months question. Also, my next question, Does my examn HAVE to be done in Canada? I know we have a Dr in Toronto and one in Montreal who are listed as approved, but my husband has one in the city he lives in that is approved as well. I am hoping to go down in May for his university graduation, and was thinking it might be ok to go to the approved Dr there. Theoretically, being in Arkansas, he might not have as full of a schedule. And it might be less expensive. Anyway, thanks for your help! Hopefully its smooth sailing..

I believe the medical exam is valid for one year from date of examination but I am not sure, you may want to post that question in the regional forum for Canada.

You cannot have your medical exam in Arkansas. It has to be done by one of the approved physicians listed by the consulate where you will be interviewed.

The medical is good for one year, however, you cannot book it until you have an interview date. Your interview letter will be required to book with the panel physician. You must have your immigration medical performed by one of the four approved offices in Canada (one in Vancouver, one in Toronto and two in Montreal.)

While the wait for an interview at Montreal was 4-5 months it has recently picked up somewhat. Regardless you will have plenty of time between notification of your interview date and the actual day to do your medical.

Good luck!
