Nope, dinosaurs=Paleontology=Geology. Bioarcheology=human remains in Archaeology=Anthropology. So I have a lot of human experience and zero dinosaur experience. Cotton though is facinating. I was considering growing green this year as I got the seeds. I bet that boll is pretty.

Hey J! Speaking of "seeds" Adam sooo wants all kinds of fruits and vegetables planted in our yard. I know this will be a huge process and alot of work that Im probably going to get stuck with. So, is it cool if when I get my thoughts and ideas together you give me some advice or ideas for a garden. I KNOW you are the pro!

I put fireant poison out and the next day half are dead and the other half moved like 12 inches away from their first huge mound... like they dont think I'll find them again. So then yesterday I put more poison out and half are dead and the rest moved a few inches away and made awhole nother mound! Omgosh! Ants are a piece of work too!

'Sup?

We so need to adopt the RUBber rule of how the question to any post is answered in the first page, and then all subsequent pages can diverge topic at any point to anything. So yeah, totally, go ahead and ask me about whatever when you get it together. The first thing I'm going to ask you for though is your zip code unless you already have figured out your usda hardiness zone, your sunlight hours and exposure for each section, and then when we're all done you know I'm going to also say you may want to talk to WOM too because she has a lot of TX-specific gardening knowledge. I can totally get you going for ideas though.

Fire ants and bermuda grass are of the devil. LOL jk. Fire ants can be tough to discourage though.

Well having the german sheppard who is inside and outside (in the back yard) shes been digging holes in the back yard. We have a whole right side up against the house that maybe could be used to garden something? But Im going to have to check how much time it gets full sun. We just noticed yesterday that our neighbors have pear trees and he got excited for fruit and veges all over again. He saw seed packets at moms house the other night and thought they were for us! We have the perfect space for planting but having a dog that runs around the yard now might create a problem for a backyard garden :(

They are relentless little tards. I make it my mission to get rid of them around the garden! its not fun putting your hand in the dirt and getting bit, especially when I am allergic to their bites! LOL

I know a neighbor who fences her garden in the yard and they have an crazy active (yet a sweetie) massive lab. Work really well for them.

Well Im going to take some pictures of around the house of some areas I think could be used for gardening something and I'll post them on fb. Hopefully this weekend since Im off. I'd really like to start at least clearing the weeds out the front and side of the house. Now flowers is something we have not agreed on yet. He wants flowers that smell good and he says there arent any in America. Haha he considers roses from walmart all we have in America.

Hi Alibekah, yeah I guess I'm looking for a foreigner just because I aint getting any younger, and my honkatonk days are over lol. I did that match.com internet site but all I got outa that was a lighter wallet so I thought I would try my hand at some ladies over seas. And it looks like the gals on the international internet sites aren't too hard on the eyes either lol.

Juliana I wish I could tell you more about cotton but except for my cotton drawers I haven't had a piece of cotton in my hands since I was a boy lol. I don't know if it is something you can plant in your back yard or not but I guess they like to drink lots of water. I plant tomatoes every year and they always turn out nice and sweet, it is my favorite vegetable. They got green tomatoes too if you want to go green lol.

You'll have to either get a dog run (recommended) or put rather tall (about 3-4 ft) fencing around the garden. Or do a container garden that you either fence off or put up out of the reach of the dog. The dog will absolutely destroy your yard and garden if he/she is allowed to roam freely. Trust me, we allowed our dogs full access to our yard and it looks a mess. Not only the digging but also the urinating that will kill your grass. It's best to keep that puppy contained now while she's still young.

I dislike putting poisons out in the environment so I prefer to try organic strategies when at all possible.

I have used the boiling water method with great success. Just boil some water in a large tea kettle or pot, walk it out to the mound and slowly pour it directly into the center and surrounding area (usually about 1 to 1-and-a-half feet in diameter.) Might take 2 kettles, depending on size. You have to kill the queen to eliminate the nest. Try to collapse most of the mound with the water.

And you need to treat all the mounds on the same day - if you leave even one, they will re-infest your yard. I like to do it on a sunny Saturday morning, then check the next day to see if there's any activity - if so, just hit 'em with another dose of boiling water.

Be careful not to treat any regular non-fire ant mounts - they are beneficial in keeping down the fire ant population.

Hai Julianna!

Be careful if that's your intended path. If you get the wrong one....then you'll really feel 'lighter wallet' like you maybe never thought possible. ;)

Another thing to mention....this process isn't as easy as a lot of people think it is. It's expensive, time-consuming, frustrating and involves a lot of patience with an imperfect government system. It's hard to find someone so far away and then have to be separated waiting on a slow system.

Hello Melvin

Welcome to VJ. Kind of unsual way to go about looking for a bride. Normally VJ is used after you find a SO.

Me~well my husband was a mail ordered groom. Just Kidding!!:luv::jest:

We met online too.

Have you checked any of the International marriage brokers? If you are interested in a foreign wife, that'll probably be your best bet.

I think there is some website for that. You just have to be carefull because I am sure there are quite a few international ladies who would want to empty your wallet too. And it would be way more pricey than just a dating website.

Peruse some of the different threads on here to get the gist of it all. There are some good people who can give you good advice on the visa journey if that is the path you want go.

I always found the best way to kill fire ants was kerosene. Just soak it on em real good it kills the whole nest.

Howdy luv and and_sam, appreciate the advise. I have checked the dating sits and have not decided which ones to use yet. A lot of them are free which is really good although I am not worried about the money so much. I promise to be careful tho.

Be VERY careful. There are PLENTY of foreign women who will be happy to get a Visa and to use you as their sugar daddy. I hope you find what you are looking for. Get to REALLY know the gal. If you're looking for a foreign live in house maid, you can find those here!! LOL (just joking) but if you are really looking for someone solid, go to places that share your same interests. I had all the bum boyfriends until one day i made a list of all my priorities, i started speaking to people with like interests and if you do that, you will meet the right person.

And yes, foreign ladies are prettier (the men are too! :D) but also remember, there are cultural differences you have to take into consideration. There is a lot more to a persona than a pretty face. Its the personality you have to live with everyday. Do the research, get to know and to understand her foods, look for a grocery store that sells her stuff (I did for my guy), get to know her spirituality and be there for her.

This is not just, "oh come here and we live happily ever after", if you ever been abroad and had the cultural shock, you would understand. But imagine that for her every single day, alone and away from her family. Its up to you to give her the foundation to being happy here.

Big responsibility my friend. Make sure you know that this is what you want. I have never regretted one second of this process because I've met the right person. :)
