I applied for mine also at the post office but a week before you and the online status says YOUR PASSPORT IS IN THE FINAL PROCESSING STAGE. Whatever. so I'm thinking we should get them by next week? Hopefully.

NYC1984, I got my passport in the mail today. it seems the online passport application status doesn't get updated so don't pay much attention to it. Mine still says final processing stages. It took less than a month. I'm officially done. Good luck to everybody still waiting.

I did not get my certificate of naturalization nor my passport card . Maybe Monday . I hope !

Yes I went for expedited (2-day) processing, schlepping down to the Boston office of the State Department with my Certificate of Naturalization, Proof of Travel Plans (I had a flight booked for August 2nd),my Driving License and $195. It was an extra $65 for the 2-day processing. It was still a bit heart-stopping to hand over the Certificate of Naturalization though! I got it back safely, with my new passport.

So I got my passport, travelled to the UK, came back, and got a US stamp in my US passport on the way back in! I guess that was because there was no UK stamp in it, as I had used my EU (Irish) passport to enter the UK (the lines were much shorter!). Nice to have no fingerprinting or photographing on the way back in though.

how long did it take to get your passport done? did you do a card as well?

2 working days to get my passport done, as I paid for expedited processing, and had a flight booked for the day after I got the passport. I did not bother with the card though. So I was naturalized on July 27th, scheduled a passport application appointment with the State Dept on Friday July 29th, and got the passport on Monday August 1st.

Oh ok i see. Must be nice going through immigration with ease upon coming back to the states this time. So if your original country allows dual-citizenship, you can go there with that country's passport and come to the U.S with your U.S passport? Seems that worked for you.

Yes - if the original country allows dual citizenship, and you haven't repudiated your original citizenship, you are actually required to present yourself as a citizen of that country to the officials of the country - including passport-control officers. Now as I'm an Irish citizen, but was entering the UK, it was probably a bit fuzzy, but as there is a common EU passport for all EU countries, it was my choice as to whether I presented myself as an EU citizen or US citizen. It was easier, and probably more correct, to present the EU passport to the UK authorities, as with a US passport they would have stamped it with a 3-month tourist/business entry permit, whereas as an EU citizen I was entitled to stay as long as I liked! If I flew directly to Ireland I would definitely have had to present my EU/Irish passport to the Irish authorities.

The thing to remember is to enter and leave the US with your US passport ONLY - so I presented my US passport to the airline as I checked in for the flight to the UK. THE US authorities do now track everyone entering and leaving, gathering data from the airlines.
