I find it very annoying when I call the US Embassy in Cairo and there are so many employees laughing and talking so loudly that I can barely hear and understand the employee whos answering my questions. Im calling to see if anyone has any information on when they will begin visa services again and as always I get the same answer, call again next week or in two weeks. Makes me a little cranky when I know my taxes are paying these people to do nothing but answer phones with the same response and they obviously have nothing to do besides having a good time. As I told my husband whos in Cairo, I dont think they will open again any sooner then they have to. They are getting paid to do nothing but answer phones, why would they?

Yea im definetely in the wrong buisness! Its hard not to be frustrated...I havent seen my husband in 9 months! This whole process teaches patience thats forsure, although mine are wearing thin.

Understandable for sure. When Adam and I were going through the process, after we married I didnt see him again for 13 months later and that was when I went back to Egypt to visit for 2 weeks. Left and then I didnt see him til his visa in hand 4 months after that.

Kari,

Hello my name is Amber. I read your post and believe me I feel your pain. I just returned home today after being in Egypt for almost 2 months. Before I went in January Ahmed and I hadnt seen each other in almost 10 months!!! It was so hard!!! While I was their our case was completed on January 31st and of course the revolution also started and the embassy shut down. I can't tell you how hard it was to see in person all the other embassies open again yet the U.S. embassy remains "closed"

Leaving Ahmed this time was so very painful I haven't stopped crying yet! I just wanted you to know I do feel your pain and I understand how difficult this time is for you and your husband. The not knowing is the worst. Even when we were going thru the uscis and the nvc atleast we had a timeframe to work with, now all we have is time and space and I think we all know how hard that is to fill. Stay strong! Even if it is just easier said than done.

Amber

P.S. I see we are practically neighbors, I live in the upper peninsula of michigan, near marquette, if you need to talk, please dont hesitate to get ahold of me!!!

It would definitely make me upset too if I had called and was told that they haven't "resumed" business but heard alot of laughing and carrying on.

But then, I would have probably would have made matters worse by saying something like it sounds like you are celebrating in there!!! What a party??? Approvals??  :innocent::devil:

Haven't you been to the various offices in Egypt for stamps and such? It's like a party in there. People shooting the breeze, drinking tea, smoking and just having a good old time while ppl are waiting to take care of business. Then they treat you like you're interupting them when you want something signed or stamped. It's terrible. Does not surprise me that ppl are laughing and whooping it up at the embassy like that.

Exactly...especially when we have all payed alot of money to the government and to get this kind of unprofessionalism from an American government office. Not only have we payed for our fees and other things but we also pay for these people to have a job there as well!!! They definetely have way to much free time on there hands. When I was in the embassy back in May these things werent going on. When the boss is away the kids will play!

I didn't experience such in the US consulate. I experienced what I did in the Egyptian beaurocratic offices. They weren't Egyptians working for Americans, they were Egyptians working for Egypt offices. I think the office you call to speak with people is different than the actual consulate that you go for USC services.

We were in the same boat....it was also 13 months after we married that I got to see Tamer and it was for 2 weeks (my kids got to go this time) and another 4 months till he got his visa in hand. It is a tough process and it also makes us appreciate the time we have together more and you will be estatic when he gets his visa and will be planning his flight here. I pray many of you get answers soon, but I agree these Embassy workers are not the one who decides when they open again and should find a way to pass time (Im sure their life has been stressful enough there through all the chaos). I dont think they really stand around and do nothing, but have to laugh and smile some time...I dont think I would want their job.

I hope things will start moving for those of you waiting....keep the faith. :innocent:

:) Please also remember not to take too much frustration out on the person answering the phone....they are not the ones who make the decisions on how the embassy operates. Its like customer who comes in my office and yell at me and blame me because a carrier left their box open or sent their mail back because they moved and we should know where they moved too....government employees have a limited amount of say so in the office and I mean a very limit say so.....I have encountered many who are truly concerned and would love things to change but policy is policy. They are still working on a skeleton crew to my understanding and hope they will return to full force soon. Due to the most current actions in Egypt are what have stalled these petitions and as things return to some kind of normal, so will the petitions (not that they are speed demons on a regular basis).

Try to keep calm and just keep calling to get an update on operation status....I hope you hear something great soon.
