In 4 days, My Fiancee will be leaving China to come to America. She will be traveling on Hainan Airlines from Guangzhou to Beijing and then onto Seattle where I will meet her. But she is packing now, and needs some last minute advise. She is bringing 3 bags, two checkin and one carry on Bag. I cann't find the weight or size requirements for the checkin bags. Elsewhere I have read that the maximum weight is 23kg, but is there a size limit for checked in bags? She showed me one on Skype and it looked humongous. I don't even see how she will be able to move it from one airline to another. Also, are there any prohibited items she will be tempted to bring. You know what I mean, the items Chinese think are OK, but us customs might disagree. When I came back from China, in San Franscisco customs, they took my sewing scissors, which had 2 1/2 inch blades. i thought that was amaging, because I had gone through over 10 security checkpoints with no problems, then when I come back into the US, they through away my scissors. That is the kind of thing I am talking about, things she may not think about, that might cause her problems. Thanks Bill

NO uncooked Meat or Vegetables, Customs will give her grief about this.

If I remember correctly you are allowed 2 checked bags, each up to 50 lbs.

Now, throw out all the porn (you may watch it one last time), clean and sanitize the house.

Your training begins in 4 days.

Good Luck.

As said no raw foods and definitely no dangerous tools as in scissors knives forks anything like that can go in checked luggage not carry on. Most airlines are 23 kgs no problem. Just get her to make sure she can get them weighed before she leaves home as the airport scales are so different. Not even a mini sewing kit as can be used as a weapon mmm be safe

I don't really have any advice about what not to bring, but I do want to make one point regarding medicine. This is a topic that we somehow did not discuss prior to Yi coming. As you know, in the US you can not just walk into a pharmacy and request antibiotics, ect.. Whereas in China this is totally normal. So, she may want to consider bringing any herbals or medicines that she feels she might need during the short term. We didn't do this and had to pay about $40 for a package to be sent over with the necessary herbals and antibiotics (some of which the FDA does not recommend taking....eh.). Good luck!

Same problem but we were able find basic Chinese antibiotics and cold remedies at our local Chinese market and this is not any where near China town either.

Yeah I had a friend come to meet me at a domestic air terminal in Australia and she had a mini screw driver set in her bag , one that you can fix your glasses with. She was not able to take it through to meet me at the plane gate they kept it till she came back out lol. I even had a brooch when I went to the UK and they took it and made my ex take it to the car as it could be classed as a deadly weapon because of the pin clasp. SO yeah nothing like that for carry on lol.

I was able to have headache tablets in my purse Ibuprofen but that's all I ever have anyways.

Security varies by Airport.

I was flying back from HK and as I was going thru security I realized I had a lighter in my pocket.

I took it out and asked the Security guy where I could toss it.

Imagine my surprise when he said I was allowed to carry one on board.

I had been thru the primary security with a lighter in my pocket and this was actually at the gate just before boarding.

In their defense they made me throw the bottle of water I had bought in the secure area, That was more of a weapon then a lighter.

xiaozhu,

Thanks for an exact answer. I am a person who likes to know exactly what is allowed and what isn't. SO thanks again. Bill
