Hi everyone, I wanted to know if anyone from Argentina knows how to get a birth certificate legalized by the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Buenos Aires.I'm from Mendoza and I called the Ministry to ask for information. They told me to get my birth certificate in the civil registry of my town and have it legalized here. Then, send it to the Ministry. I did just what they told me and today I got my certificate back from the Ministry with a letter saying they couldn't legalize it because the signature of the Judge who legalized it here is not registered in the Ministry. I'd really appreciate some help with this!!

They also could not legalize ours the first time we went to the Ministry, because the signature wasn't registered. It was because the birth certificate was old and I guess they just don't have proper records? We went to the place that issues birth certificates for where my husband was born and told them we needed a current one to legalize, they took the old one and put some new stamps and such on it then the Ministry accepted it to legalize. This probably doesn't help you.. but I think it also depends who you get at the Ministry, we saw some people throwing the "legalized" stamp on any piece of paper you brought in whereas others took it very seriously.

thanks a lot for the information!the weird thing is that I did get a new birth certificate. I didn't send the old one I've always had at home. I went to the registry and got a new one, and had it legalized on the same day. It's really annoying because before doing all that I had called the Ministry. I guess I'll have to call again and ask for an explanation.

That is annoying.. it definitely seems like you're trying to do everything right! Maybe it was just bad luck, you should call and make sure there's nothing else you can do, then send it back and hopefully get someone different who will do it?

In your situation, you are probably not going to be stuck with this option. But, for us there came a point at which we wanted to get the visa so bad and were not able to get the documents we needed from government offices in a timely way.. at this point, paying a little more, giving workers thank yous, bringing in a lawyer for show.. those things don't make me happy to have to do but they did get the job done quickly. Of course, as an Argentine, you already know that!

I think now I'll be able to have it legalized!! I called the Ministry twice again this morning. The first time, a lady who was not nice or helpful at all talked to me and gave me no information that could solve my problem. The second time, I got to talk to someone a lot nicer and who apparently knows how to do things. She told me that I had to take the certificate to be signed by a judge from the capital city of Mendoza not by one from the town where I was born.She said at the Ministry they keep signatures only from judges who work in the capital cities. So I'm heading to the city next week, have it signed, and then I'll send it back to Buenos Aires!Hopefully this time it'll work!! Thank you for taking the time to read and respond to this post!
