My fiance had his interview today

Hi all -

My fiance had his interview for a K1 at the embassy in Lilongwe, Malawi this afternoon. The CO asked him 4 straightforward questions. She then told him that I needed to send my 2010 tax return (I had initially sent copies of all of my 2010 pay stubs, as my return was not yet available at the time I sent everything to my finace) as well as our text, email and call records for January and February, and returned his passport to him. That's it. He did not receive a pink or blue slip at all, the only piece of paper he was given today was the payment receipt for the interview.

Any input on what this could mean? Does this mean we will likely be approved once the documents are returned?

K-1 Visa
05/17/2010 – Petition mailed to USCIS via certified return receipt.
05/27/2010 – NOA1 issued
06/03/2010 – Touch/NOA1 hard copy received in US Mail
10/27/2010 – 5 month mark
10/28/2010 – Spoke to USCIS representative – 'still pending'
11/04/2010 – Spoke to USCIS representative – 'still pending', but service request generated
11/05/2010 – Notified that background checks are not complete - looks like we're in for a looong wait...

I would say it's a cautious positive, but you cannot be sure until he returns with those items and gets the visa in his passport. It is a little odd they ask for 2010 tax returns 6 weeks before the deadline!

Me: Irish/ Swiss citizen, and now naturalised US citizen. Husband: USC; twin babies born Feb 08 in Ireland and a daughter in Feb 2010 in Arkansas who are all joint Irish/ USC. Did DCF (IR1) in 6 weeks via the Dublin, Ireland embassy and now living in Arkansas.

I would say it's a cautious positive, but you cannot be sure until he returns with those items and gets the visa in his passport. It is a little odd they ask for 2010 tax returns 6 weeks before the deadline!

Fortunately, I do already have it now - I just didn't have it when I sent my fiance all of the stuff in the first week of January. The frustrating part is that I had contacted them beforehand about that they said they would accept the pay stubs in lieu of the actual return. And now this... ah well, I guess ya gotta do what ya gotta do.

Thank you. No, he didn't, but fortunately interviews can be scheduled there with only a couple of days notice.

Does anyone know if these things can be faxed to the embassy? Or must I send the actual copies?

An update...but still a little confused.

I overnighted all of the documents that they wanted which arrived last Monday. During the week, they called our boss where my fiance and I originally met and worked together in Malawi to verify our relationship. Today my fiance stopped by to see if there were any updates, and they asked him to bring his passport and that they could call him any day when the visa was ready. But they didn't come out and *say* it was approved, and they *still* did not give him any slips of paper. I'm jumping for joy because I'm assuming that means that it's an approval - but I also am still fearing the black hole of AP. Would they have asked for his passport if we were going to end up in AP?

Agreed. They wouldn't have any need to ask him to come back with his passport unless they intended to put a visa in it.
